Abstract: A method and/or system useful for predicting and/or forecasting and for production and business planning/forecasting in the global chemical industry. The method and system take into account aspects of global trade and the interrelatedness of value chains in which feedstocks and outputs are interrelated through one or more chemical processes. The method and system provides a useful tool for business planners and business execution whereby the sensitivity of variables affecting different value chains may be expressed by the interrelatedness of the chemical processes and/or business environment.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing a thermoelectric component or at least a semifinished version thereof, in which at least one thermoelectric active material in dry powder form is introduced into at least some of the holes of a perforated template. It addresses the problem of specifying a method which can be conducted in a particularly economically viable manner. The problem is solved by virtue of the active material remaining in the holes of the template, and the template filled with active material becoming a constituent of the thermoelectric component produced.

Abstract: A corrosion protected metal pipe for installation in an offshore structure or for producing a pipeline laid in water is provided. The metal pipe has an at least two-layer covering on the pipe with a lower layer facing the pipe and an upper layer on a side of the lower layer not facing the pipe is provided. The layers are formed such that the lower layer is electrically conductive and the upper layer is electrically insulating, the lower layer is optically contrasting to the upper layer, or the lower layer is electrically conducting and optically contrasting to the upper layer and the upper layer is electrically insulating. Thus, in the event of damage to the layer or layers lying above, a visual or electrical signal can be detected. Damage to the corrosion protection covering can therefore be detected easily and, if appropriate, reported by remote monitoring.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to a process for preparing D,L-methionine by feeding carbon dioxide to an aqueous potassium methioninate solution obtained by hydrolysis of 5-(2-methylmercaptoethyl)hydantoin, in order to precipitate out crude methionine, which is separated off and purified. In this process an aqueous solution of the separated-off crude methionine is purified by recrystallization from a solution containing potassium ions and also a crystallization additive. The crystallization additive is a nonionic or anionic surfactant, or a mixture of different nonionic or anionic surfactants. The recrystallization occurs by introducing a 60 to 110° C.-hot methionine solution into a 35 to 80° C.-warm methionine suspension, a temperature of which is lower than that of the introduced solution, such that the temperature of the methionine suspension being maintained between 35 and 80° C. during the addition. The crystallization additive is a sorbitan fatty acid ester or a mixture of different sorbitan fatty acid esters.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing aldehydes having five carbon atoms, in which an input mixture containing 10% by weight to 50% by weight of linear butenes and less than 5% by weight of 1-butene is hydroformylated with synthesis gas in the presence of a catalyst system comprising rhodium and at least one bisphosphite ligand, wherein the hydroformylation is effected in a reactor from which, over an operating period, a cycle gas containing at least a portion of the products and unconverted reactants from the hydroformylation is continuously drawn off and partly condensed, and uncondensed components of the cycle gas are recycled into the reactor, and wherein, after the operating period has expired, the hydroformylation is stopped, the reactor is freed of reaction residues and the hydroformylation is restarted. It is based on the problem of making such a process more economically viable.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the thioetherification of mercaptanes with polyunsaturated hydrocarbons, carried out in a reactor with the addition of hydrogen, using a heterogenic catalyst and in the presence of 1-butene. The aim of the invention is to develop such a method to the extent that the creation of value from the C4 raw material stream is increased. Said aim is achieved in that the hydrogen is added to the reaction in such a manner that the molar ratio of hydrogen to polyunsaturated hydrocarbons is no more than one.
