    Abstract: A device is disclosed for determining a first geographical location of a customer premise, a second geographical location of a radio frequency transmitter and a third geographical location of network access equipment proximal to the customer premises, wherein the network access equipment provides access to media signals by way of a broadband communications link. The first, second and third geographical locations are mapped, and a distance between the second geographical location and one of the first geographical location or the third geographical location is determined. The distance is compared to a threshold distance based on a signal transmission power of the radio frequency transmitter, and a mitigation strategy is determined to limit interference of the radio frequency transmitter on the media signals provided to the first geographical location when the distance is less than the threshold distance.

    Abstract: An adaptive SINR control process is triggered based on various quality measures associated with the received signal in a mobile device or on a geographic region in which a base station and an interferer are located. As part of the adaptive SINR control process, the mobile device reduces the signal level of the received signal, which reduces both the signal strength of the desired signal and the interfering signal. If the control process is triggered on the mobile device side, after detecting the presence of interference, the mobile device sends a request that the base station increase its transmit power of the desired signal to improve the receiving SINR in the mobile device. Alternatively, the mobile device may receive information from the base station causing the mobile device to reduce the signal level of the received signal based on quality indicators sent by the mobile device to the base station or based on geographic location of the base station.

Upon receipt of each customer-generated information frame, an ingress Multi-Service Platform (MSP) “tags” the frame with a customer descriptor that specifically identifies the recipient customer. Using the customer descriptor in each frame, a recipient Provider Edge Router (PER) or ATM switch can map the information as appropriate to direct the information to the specific customer. In addition, the customer descriptor may also include Quality of Service (QoS) allowing the recipient Provider Edge Router (PER) or ATM switch to vary the QoS level accordingly.
