    Abstract: Radio frequency identification (RFID) tags may be affixed to one or more personal objects, such as a key, a watch, a wallet, a purse, a medicine container, or the like. A mobile telephone may be associated with the plurality of RFID tags. A display of the mobile telephone may indicate whether each of the RFID tags is in communication with an RFID reader. For example, the RFID reader may be embedded in a drawer lining, embedded in the mobile telephone itself, or embedded in a handheld wand. The mobile telephone may generate an alert when at least one of the plurality of RFID tags is not in communication with the RFID reader. For example, a trigger RFID may be affixed to a doorway. The trigger RFID may cause the mobile telephone to alert the user to a missing item.

    Abstract: Block-encoded transmissions of a multi-antenna terminal unit are effectively detected in the presence of co-channel interfering transmissions when the base station has a plurality of antennas, and interference cancellation is combined with maximum likelihood decoding. More specifically, the signals received at the base station antennas are combined in a linear combination that relates to the channel coefficients between the various transmitting terminal units and the base antennas. By selecting proper coefficients for the linear combination and choosing probable transmitted signals that minimize a minimum mean squared error function, the signals of the various terminal units are canceled when detecting the signal of a particular unit. In another embodiment of the invention, the basic approach is used to obtain an initial estimate of the signals transmitted by one terminal unit, and the contribution of those signals is removed from the received signals prior to detecting the signals of other terminal units.

Relative to high priority messages, if the channel is not busy when a message is ready for transmission, then the message is transmitted immediately. Back off periods are illustratively randomly selected by the units. Low priority messages are similarly not transmitted when the channel is busy, and additionally are not transmitted for a preselected pre-emption interval when the channel is available to high priority messages but not to low priority messages. Like with high priority messages, low priority messages that not transmitted when ready are held back a back-off period before they are transmitted.

The outputted tag includes a media reference and a user identification.
