Patent number: 10530889Abstract: The disclosed embodiments relate to a system for identifying member profiles containing disallowed content in an online social network. During operation, the system scans member profiles looking up words from one or more fields in “bad-word” and/or “good-word” dictionaries. These dictionaries were previously generated by examining member profiles that were judged by a human reviewer to be “good” profiles or “bad” profiles, and determining whether a word belongs in a specific dictionary based on frequencies of occurrence of the word in the good profiles and the bad profiles. Next, the system computes a score for each member profile based at least partially on occurrences of words from the dictionaries in the member profile. Finally, the system identifies a member profile as containing disallowed content based on the score.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 2014Date of Patent: January 7, 2020Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Yaniv Goldenberg, Theodore H. Patent number: 10120556Abstract: According to various exemplary embodiments, user input of a single continuous gesture from a touch-sensitive surface of a first device to a touch-sensitive surface of a second device is detected. It is determined that the gesture corresponds to a drag-and-drop operation performed on an icon displayed on the touch-sensitive surface of the first device, the icon representing user profile information. Moreover, it is determined that the gesture terminates proximate to a job position user interface element in a job recruitment user interface window displayed on the touch-sensitive surface of the second device. Thereafter, the user profile information of the user is transferred from the first device to the second device.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 2015Date of Patent: November 6, 2018Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Yevgeniy Brikman, Bowei Gai, Matthew David Shoup

Patent number: 9851874Abstract: Techniques for generating and providing personalized interactive tours of various features of a webpage are described. According to various embodiments, it may be determined that a device associated with a user is accessing a webpage including various webpage features. Personalized experience scores corresponding to the webpage features may be calculated. Each of the personalized experience scores may indicate a current experience level of the user with the corresponding webpage feature. Thereafter, a specific webpage feature may be identified, where the personalized experience scores indicate that the user has a relatively low current experience level with that specific webpage feature. A user-selectable tour entry user interface element may be displayed on the webpage, wherein the tour entry user interface element includes a link to an interactive tour describing the specific webpage feature.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2013Date of Patent: December 26, 2017Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Hans van de Bruggen, Matthew David Shoup, Gordon Koo

Patent number: 9736291Abstract: Systems and methods for pairing electronic devices are provided. In an example embodiment, first motion capture data corresponding to a physical user motion is received from a first device. Second motion capture data corresponding to the physical user motion is received from a second device. Features are extracted from the first motion capture data and the second motion capture data. An association between the first device and the second device is determined based on a comparison of the extracted features. In response to identifying the association between the first and second device, a communicative coupling between the first device and the second device is initiated.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2016Date of Patent: August 15, 2017Assignee: LinkedIn CorporationInventors: Bowei Gai, Matthew David Shoup, Yevgeniy Brikman

Patent number: 9578481Abstract: Systems and methods for pairing electronic devices are provided. In an example embodiment, geolocation data for a first device and a second device is received. Based on determining the first device is within a predetermined distance of the second device using the geolocation data, gesture data of the first device and second device is accessed. An association between the first device and the second device is identified based on the gesture data. A communicative coupling is initiated between the first device and the second device in response to identifying the association.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2015Date of Patent: February 21, 2017Assignee: LinkedIn CorporationInventors: Bowei Gai, Matthew David Shoup, Yevgeniy Brikman

Publication number: 20160063110Abstract: Techniques for generating a search query via a user interface are described. According to various embodiments, a specific visual configuration of selected icons includes one or more distinct groups of selected icons. A group search query string is generated for each of the distinct groups, each group search query string including search query terms associated with the one or more selected icons in the respective group and further including a first type of boolean search operator between pairs of the search query terms included in the respective group search query string. A complete search query string is generated that includes each of the group search query strings and further includes a second type of boolean search operator between pairs of the group search query strings included in the complete search query string.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 23, 2014Publication date: March 3, 2016Inventors: Matthew David Shoup, Kathleen Susan So

Publication number: 20150248739Abstract: A system and method are provided for recommending courses to members of a social networking system. The social networking system stores a plurality of member profiles associated with a plurality of members of the social networking system, wherein each member profile includes one or more skills associated with the member. Then, for a respective first member in the plurality of members, the social networking system determines one or more suggested skills for the respective first member based on the one or more skills stored in the respective first member's profile. The social networking system then selects one or more educational courses from a plurality of available educational courses based on the determined suggested skills and transmits the one or more selected educational courses to an electronic device associated with the member for display.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 29, 2014Publication date: September 3, 2015Inventors: Robert M.
