Abstract: A collapsible bed frame that supports a box spring includes side rails and telescoping cross rails. A first hinge connects upper and lower portions of a first side rail that are each at least 35 inches long. A first portion of a cross rail telescopes inside a second portion of the cross rail, and the first portion is connected to the first hinge. Upper and lower portions of a second side rail are connected by a second hinge that includes a slot. The second portion of the cross rail has a tongue that fits into the slot on the second hinge. The side rails also have support legs with flanges that extend above the side rails when the support legs are extended. The first and second hinges also include flanges that together with the support leg flanges prevent the box spring from sliding towards either side of the bed frame.

Abstract: The present invention provides a body support assembly comprising a layer having a passage, a pump positioned to create a flow of fluid through the passage, a sensor that detects a parameter and produces a signal, and a controller coupled to the sensor and programmed to control the flow of fluid based on the signal. Preferably, the layer comprises visco-elastic foam. In one embodiment, the parameter corresponds with a firmness of the layer (e.g., a temperature of the layer). A heat exchanger can be used to alter (e.g., heat or cool) a temperature of the fluid. The present invention further provides a method of controlling a firmness of a body support comprising sensing a sensed value of a parameter (e.g., temperature) of the body support, establishing a desired value of the parameter, comparing the sensed parameter to the desired value, and adjusting the parameter.

Abstract: A distribution system is adapted for use with a mattress and a personal comfort system with an air conditioning system operable for outputting a conditioned air flow. The distribution system includes at least top and bottom layers of fabric material and a spacer structure disposed between the bottom and top layers. The spacer structure defines an internal volume within the distribution layer and is configured to enable the received conditioned air flow to flow therethrough. This flow of conditioned air has a cooling or heating effect on a body on the mattress.

Abstract: A headrest designed for an infant. The headrest has a sleeve with flat top and bottom surfaces. The inner cavity of the sleeve is filled with a dry, visco-elastic polymer cushioning material having a 50% compression force deflection in a range of 2.5 to 3.5 psi. The cushioning material also has a 25% compression force deflection in a range of 0.25 psi to 1 psi. The sleeve has a dimension of between 3 inches to 12 inches and is between ΒΌ inch and 2 inches thick. The sleeve has a specialized cover to protect it from dirt and damage. The cover contains an opening and closing mechanism to allow insertion and removal of the polymer filled sleeve.

The application apparatus comprises at least a first semi-rigid or rigid elongate planar element (100), and a means (204, 206) of releasably securing a flexible pelvic support (300) adjacent the planar element (100) such that, in use the planar element (100) and pelvic support (300) can be slid between a person and a surface against which the person is supported. The apparatus may also comprise a second elongate planar element (200) releasably attachable to the first elongate planar element (100). The mattress upper body section is orientation adjustable in as a function of the orientation of the upper body section of the frame upon which the mattress rests. At least part 60 of the mattress lower body section is profile adjustable as a function of the orientation of the mattress upper body section without being dependent on profile adjustment of the lower body section of the frame. A mattress replacement system includes a mattress having an orientation adjustable upper body section and a lower body section.
