  • Patent number: 5476040
Abstract: A pad printing machine is disclosed in which the downward pressure forces are transferred to a thrust collar on the ink cup by application through a divided bearing which applies the hold-down forces at points that are spaced forward and rearward of the transverse pivot axis of the ink cup, and only at such spaced points, to resist rocking moments such as may arise from the reciprocating movements of the cliche. Further, the thrust collar is a combination of a very rigid pressure ring and a hard but slightly resilient plastic pressure distribution ring which is accurately machined after subassembly with the rigid ring to assure full mating engagement with the upper surface of the annular flange around the entire circumference of the ink cup, to assure uniform pressure of the entire knife edge on the cliche. In a preferred embodiment, the ink cup also is formed of a hard plastic.

  • Patent number: 5282417
Abstract: The intaglio printing machine has three machine stands (I, II, III). Essentially, the impression cylinder (1) and the plate cylinder (2) are mounted in the first stand (I), the stencil rollers (10) and the inking unit (11) are mounted in the second stand (II), and the color-collect cylinder (8) is mounted in the third stand (III). The third stand (III) is adjustable in such a way that it can be removed from the space between the first and second stands and brought into an inoperative position, so that it is possible to bring the second stand (II) up against the first stand (I) to form an intaglio printing machine with direct inking. This results in a convertible intaglio printing machine by means of which a collect intaglio print can be made in a first operating position, in which all three stands assume their working position, and a direct intaglio print can be made in a second operating position, with the use of only the first and second stands.

  • Patent number: 5272973
Abstract: An inkcup and drive mechanism for a printing machine wherein the inkcup comprises a hollow body for containing a supply of ink and having an open end outlined by a wiping edge, a biasing spring for urging the wiping edge into contact with a surface of a printing plate, and a holder for supporting the biasing spring and engaging the printing plate so that the assembly of hollow body, biasing spring and holder is movable along the printing plate to place the open end of the hollow body into and out of registry with the image for inking the same and so that the biasing spring is entirely within the inkcup and applies force only to the hollow body and to the holder. The printing plate is removable from the machine so that the inkcup is easily manually removable from the machine in a sealed and contained condition.

  • Patent number: 5152220
Abstract: The wiping device has a trough (4) and a wiping cylinder (2) which is mounted in the mutually opposite side walls (4a) of the trough (4). The trough (4) is itself mounted tiltably about a pivot axis (6) lying at least approximately in that plane (T') which passes through the axis of rotation of the wiping cylinder and which is parallel to the tangential plane (T) of the wiping cylinder (2) and plate cylinder (1) passing through the point of contact between the two cylinders. The pressing force with which the wiping cylinder (2) bears against the plate cylinder (1) can be set and requlated during the printing operation by means of an adjusting device (11, 12, 13) by correspondingly tilting the trough (4) together with the wiping cylinder (2) about its pivot axis (6). At the same time, the pressing forces are transmitted by adjusting rods (7) which are mounted on both sides of the wiping cylinder (2) and which act on the trough (4).

  • Patent number: 5103732
Abstract: A doctor blade head assembly, particularly for use in a flexographic printing press, has a head body pivoted to a support frame with an inflatable air tube disposed therebetween. The air tube extends along a channel having a bottom formed with spaced apart raised portions which cause the air tube to bulge out at these locations. In this way the air tube essentially only presses against the head body at these spaced apart locations, for example at the center and adjacent the ends, which reduces the tendency of the head body to bend along its length. This provides a more uniform ink film on the ink roll being inked by the doctor blade head assembly. End seal arrangements at the ends of the head body each include a resilient block seal and a resilient pad seal with which greased edge portions of the doctor blades slidably engage. The doctor blades overhang the ends of the ink roll, and an ink outlet passageway extends through each end seal arrangement independently of the seals.

  • Patent number: 4905594
Abstract: A pad-type printing machine comprises a holding device for a printing block, an ink feeding mechanism including a hollow body which in operation of the machine has its end face in contact with the printing block, and a pressure mechanism for pressing the end face of the hollow body against the printing block. A device is also provided for generating a relative movement between the printing block and the hollow body. A pad or tampon is pressed upon the inked printing block for picking up ink from recesses of the printing block and transferring it to an object to be printed. The periphery of the end face of the hollow body is provided with a hard material. The hollow body of the printing mechanism is, in the area of its end face constructed so that it can be bent in this area, and the area is connected to the remaining part of the hollow body by a connection which permits relative movements between the area of the end face and the remaining part of the hollow body.

  • Patent number: 4899654
Abstract: In a wiping apparatus for an intaglio printing press, a piston rod actuating end of a fluid pressure cylinder is pivotally coupled to each eccentric bearing for supporting the wiping roller, and the fluid pressure cylinder is supported by an adjusting mechanism for slightly moving in an extendable direction of the piston rod. A doctor blade holding member and a press-side support member are coupled by a plurality of fixing screws. The support member is reciprocally supported relative to the press side in an attachment/detachment direction of the doctor blade. The eccentric bearings and both ends of the support member are coupled by cam mechanisms for interlocking pivotal movement of the eccentric bearings with reciprocal movement of the support member. A doctor blade contact pressure fine-adjusting mechanism reciprocates the holding member with respect to the support member. Belleville springs are inserted between heads of fixing screws and the doctor blade holding member.

  • Patent number: 4875412
Abstract: A blanket cleaner for removing dust, lint or ink from a blanket cylinder in an offset printing press during the uninterrupted course of a press run. A first fluid cylinder periodically urges a brush against the blanket cylinder and retracts the brush from the blanket cylinder. Retraction of the brush permits the dust and lint swept before the brush to fall onto a door of a lint catcher. The door is raised and lowered by action of a second fluid cylinder. Operation of the second fluid cylinder lags the operation of the first fluid cylinder by an interval of time sufficient to permit the dust, lint or ink to fall onto the door. In the preferred embodiment, the structure includes a device for removal of debris from the lint catcher.
