  • Patent number: 11021176
Abstract: An energy absorption device configured to be provided at a front end of a train includes a coupler seat, a support base, a crush pipe, a coupler, a guide member, an energy absorption component and an anti-climbing assembly. The support base is fixedly arranged at the front end of the train; the crush pipe is fixed to the coupler seat; a connecting end of the coupler is inserted into the crush pipe and is slidable with respect to the crush pipe; the guide member has one end fixed to the coupler seat, and another end inserted into the support base and slidable with respect to the support base; the guide member limits an oscillation of the crush pipe; the energy absorption component is provided between the coupler seat and the support base; and the anti-climbing assembly is fixedly arranged on the support base and is compressible.

  • Patent number: 5727473
Abstract: A rotary locking mechanism connects an upper ramp and a lower ramp of a split ramp railway car. A pin carrier supports a coupling pin and is mounted to the lower ramp by a swivel pin. The pin carrier can pivot horizontally relative to the lower ramp. A dual vertical rotor lock is mounted to the upper ramp. The rotor lock includes first and second coupling disks which have rotor slots or grooves for receiving the coupling pin. The coupling disks have a horizontal axis of rotation so that the disks are vertically mounted. The action of the coupling pin entering the grooves in the first and second coupling disks will automatically rotate the coupling disks into a locked position. Locking pins then engage slots in the peripheries of the coupling disks to secure the coupling disk in the locked position.

  • Patent number: 5480042
Abstract: A retainer is provided for retaining a catch mounted to a first portion of a split ramp car in its unlocked position as a second portion of a ramp car exits a locking area in which it is previously locked. An arm portion of the retainer extends into the locking area and controls the operation of the retainer in response to the movement of the ramp and the locking area. A fluid coupler, automatically couples a first and second portions of a main reservoir pipe and a first and second portions of a brake pipe connected to each first and second portion of the ramp car respectively, when the ramp is in its raised and travel position. Valves in each of the main reservoir passages close the main reservoir passage when the first and second housings are separated and opens the main reservoir passages when the first and second housings are joined. An electrical coupler is also automatically coupled as the two portions of the ramp car are joined.

  • Patent number: 5456520
Abstract: A trailer for selectively transporting either a first or second substance is disclosed. The trailer includes a substantially flat bed and has two containers disposed thereon, each of which is capable of storing a different type of substance. An operator may choose to transport materials in either one of the two containers. Accordingly, the container to transport the substance is shifted toward a balanced load distribution point along the trailer while the empty container is moved to one end of the trailer. In the preferred embodiment, the two containers are coupled together so that the movement of one container along the trailer automatically causes a corresponding movement in the other. One container moves along the trailer by virtue of a plurality of wheels while the other slides along rails separated by a bearing.

  • Patent number: 5222443
Abstract: A ramp car for loading and unloading vehicles comprises first and second ramps mounted respectively to first and second wheel sets. The first and second ramps extend toward each other in a lowered loading position for providing access for vehicles to a train in both directions. The first and second ramps are locked to each other in a raised travel position. The ramp car also includes a displacement structure having guide mechanism associated with the first and second ramps for guiding the raising and lowering of the ramps. The ramp car is provided with a controller device for selectively controlling the operation of the ramp car. The controller device may be an integral part of the ramp car or may be selectively plugged into a port on either ramp of the car.
