  • Patent number: 11454391
Abstract: A burn box includes a font, a rear, a first and a second side, a lower, and an upper interior surface, as well as a first push member, a first coupler, and a first torque member. The first push member includes a first end, a second end, and a first coupler portion. The first coupler pivotally couples the first coupler portion to the first interior surface. The second end is vertically intermediate the first end and the lower interior surface. The first torque member provides a first torque to the first push member. When the first torque is provided to the first push member, the first push member rotates about a first rotational axis. The first rotational axis is through the first coupler portion of the first push member. The first rotational axis is parallel to the longitudinal axis. The second end rotates toward the second side interior surface.

  • Patent number: 8601957
Abstract: A device and method for controlling fuel-air ratio during combustion of ground in a coal power plant, including pneumatic delivery of ground coal to the burners and feeding combustion air to burners while controlling the combustion air and the amount of carrier air. A high reliability of control combined with low maintenance of the air mass measurement devices is achieved. This is achieved by a measurement device for measuring the amount of combustion air which, according to correlation measurement, evaluates the triboelectric effects on sensors. Between 0.1 mg and 10 mg of fine-grained particles of a diameter between 20 ?m and 200 ?m are introduced per m3 air into suctioned fresh air, which is carried out during the starting of the firing system. This is done by correlation measurement that evaluates triboelectric effects on sensors, arranged in series in carrier air stream in direction of flow of the carrier air.

  • Patent number: 6338306
Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for discharging ash from a plurality of fossil-fuel boiler hoppers through actuator opened gate valves by opening only selected gate valves during a given discharge cycle and bypassing other hoppers. The time required to discharge a given hopper is determined and compared with a desired time range that would be required to discharge the hopper, if the hopper was filled to a desired percentage. Opening of a given hopper during subsequent cycles is based on a comparison of the actual discharge time with a desired discharge time range. If the actual discharge time is less than the minimum time of the desired time range, a time increment is assigned to the given hopper, and the hopper is bypassed on subsequent cycles until the assigned time increment has expired.

  • Patent number: 6055915
Abstract: A method of wood waste disposal which regulates factors such as the amount of wood residue being fed to an incinerator at any given time so that wood residue from a mill is processed promptly and efficiently without compromising the efficient operation of the incinerator. The wood residue is separated into at least two fractions, the first fraction being directed to a storage bin for later use as required, and the second fraction being directed to the incinerator. During periods of slack feed of the second fraction to the incinerator, portions of the first fraction, as required, are directed to the incinerator as make-up, in order to maintain an optimal range of incinerator conditions by manipulating the volume and flow of wood residue in cooperation with manipulating other factors.

  • Patent number: 5579704
Abstract: A unit for disposing of refuse and contaminants by thermal oxidation includes a housing having a bottom, side walls and a top disposed in surrounding relation to an interior thereof. A partial wall structure divides the housing interior to define a first thermal oxidation chamber sized and configured to contain the refuse and contaminants and a second flue gas burning chamber disposed in air-flow communication with said first chamber. Heating elements are provided in the first and second chambers to raise the temperature to a predetermined level in order to induce thermal oxidation of refuse in the first chamber and the resultant flue gasses passing through the second chamber. An exhaust stack receives the flue gasses exiting from the second chamber and includes a filter therein for removing remaining contaminants from the flue gasses prior to entering the atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 4856984
Abstract: Automatic reset for an unattended gas furnace has an induced draft blower motor energized by an electrical power source and with a first, normally "open", relay switch in circuit to control the operation of the blower motor. A burner control circuit, energized by a transformer coupled portion of the power source, has a room thermostatic switch, a second, normally "open", relay switch in series with the thermostatic switch and an air-flow switch operated by airflow in the furnace to connect the control circuit to the second power source when the blower is "on" and the thermostat is "closed", calling for heat. The second switch is connected to the control electrode of an electronic switching element to energize selectively a relay controller which, when energized, closes both the first and second relay switches to energize the blower motor and burner control circuit.

  • Patent number: 4750435
Abstract: The invention is a system for detecting the level of slag in a solid fuels gasification reactor. In this invention a pokerod is extended into the quench chamber of the reactor, and pulled back to a retract position, in a timed sequence. The timed sequence is initiated by an electronic controller unit, in combination with an air pressure regulator, a solenoid valve, a double chamber air cylinder, and two sensor switches. The end of the pokerod that moves into the quench chamber is designed to contact the solid slag without penetrating the material itself. If the pokerod makes contact with the slag material, the controller sets off an alarm to warn the operator of slag build up in the reactor.

  • Patent number: 4615282
Abstract: A control module in a hot surface ignition system includes a microcomputer programmed to provide a pre-selected igniter warm-up time period for enabling the igniter to heat up to gas ignition temperature during normal system operation, and is further programmed to provide, for test purposes only, an accelerated igniter warm-up time period which is shorter than the pre-selected igniter warm-up time period but sufficiently long for enabling the igniter to heat up to a temperature sufficiently high to ignite gas. The program for providing the accelerated igniter warm-up time period is automatically executed in response to a unique signal effected by the control module in conjunction with a detachably connected test device.

  • Patent number: 4313387
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling the burning of a solid fuel furnace is disclosed. In a furnace having a burning chamber, a fuel supply mechanism in the form of a rotating grate, a fuel discharge mechanism in the form of a rotating grate located adjacent the rotating grate of the fuel supply mechanism and at least one air blower, the present invention supplies a control mechanism for controlling the operation of the fuel supply and discharge mechanism as well as the blowers in such a manner that fuel is supplied and discharged in an optimum manner. The control mechanism senses the temperature of the combustion gases and the temperature of the load being heated by the furnace. If the temperature of the load is below a predetermined level and a first time period T.sub.1 has not passed since a preceding fuel supply and discharge, the fans are activated but a fuel supply and discharge cycle is not. If the time of the sensing of the low load temperature is below the time T.sub.

  • Patent number: 4201187
Abstract: A solid fuel burning system which may be readily combined with a conventional fluid fuel burning furnace in a forced air heating system. The solid fuel burning system comprises, in combination, a draft inducing blower which directs air for combustion into the furnace at a point proximate the burning fuel. Baffle walls are provided which separate the smoke and other products of combustion from the clean air to be heated and a novel heat exchanger comprised of a plurality of elongated tubes provide a relatively large heat transfer surface. The furnace is specifically designed to facilitate periodic cleaning of the interior walls of the heat exchanger where creosote and other products of combustion may accumulate. In addition, the system employs a novel electronic control circuit which is tied in with the room thermostat and with a thermocouple disposed within the solid fuel burning furnace.
