Abstract: A cut and clinch unit is provided with pair of slide bodies, and each slide body is configured from movable section and fixed section that slidably holds the movable section. An insertion hole is formed in the movable section. A pair of leads of a leaded component are inserted into the insertion holes of a pair of slide bodies, and the pair of leads are bent into an N shape by each movable section being slid. The cut and clinch unit is movable in the XY directions by operation of a moving device. Also, the distance between the pair of slide bodies can be changed freely. Accordingly, it is possible to mount leads at any position on a board in a state bent into an N shape, and to mount leaded components with various different lead separation distances on a board in a state bent into an N shape.

Abstract: Manual mounting of large high density lead insertion connectors (1) onto circuit boards (3) is achieved by simultaneously engaging all connector leads (2) with a comb (9), sliding the engaged leads into alignment with receiving passageways (4) in the circuit board and pressing the connector leads into the receiving passageways. The comb has an exterior surface forming channels (10) corresponding in spatial relationship to the lead receiving passageways. A connector lead insertion apparatus (5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10) is utilized in conjunction with the lead insertion method to hold the circuit board and connector in fixed position with respect to each other. The apparatus further permits the comb to be guided into proper position prior to engaging the connector leads.

Abstract: A steel wire directly from the rolling mill is formed into a horizontally advancing helix having a succession of upstanding turns. This helix is fed into a horizontally opening end of an elbow and a roller at the short side of the elbow deflects the helix so that it exits from the downwardly opening outlet end of the elbow. An upright cooling tube is provided immediately at this downstream end and has a multiplicity of throughgoing holes each aligned with a respective nozzle for spraying of liquid on the descending coil so as rapidly to cool it and to transform at least the surface of it into martinsite. At the lower end of the tube the cooled coil, at a temperature of 500.degree. C.-600.degree. C. as compared with the starting temperature of 750.degree. C., is carried horizontally away by a conveyor.
