Abstract: Cutting assemblies are disclosed that include an entrance portion and a receiving portion, with the receiving portion defining a receiving opening configured to be axially aligned with an entrance opening of the entrance portion when mounted to the surface of a cutting apparatus. Cutting assemblies are also provided that include a material carriage configured to be borne by a cutting apparatus. Cutting assemblies that include a material receiving portion configured to be slidably mounted to a surface of a cutting apparatus are also disclosed. Cutting methods are also disclosed that can include rotating a piece of material around the materials longitudinal axis and delivering the material to a cutting tool while the longitudinal axis of the material is aligned substantially opposite the direction of rotation of the cutting tool.
Abstract: A lathe attachment device is disclosed for producing long articles with complicated profiles. The device contains a beveled multi-teeth cutter driven to rotate in a direction opposite the rotation of a billet to ensure a very short period of contact time between an individual cutting tooth and the article. The cutter is slightly tilted towards the billet in both horizontal and vertical plane. The teeth of the cutter are shaped to each have a pointed end facing the rough part of the billet. Provisions are made to draw the cutter along the billet. The device allows producing a smooth finished long article with complicated surface profile in a single pass with high productivity. Due to limited contact time, it offers extended life of the cutter. The device is used most advantageously to produce long wood articles.
Abstract: A wood turning tool especially useful for roughing out operations. An angle grinder is mounted to a pair of parallel plates. The parallel plates are coupled together with a screw drive mechanism. The lower of the parallel plates has a perpendicular rod suitable for mating with the lathe banjo. A roughing out cutting operation is carried out by advancing the angle grinder fitted with a circular chain saw blade into the workpiece using the screw drive mechanism. Various texturing operations can be carried out using other cutters and wire brushes. The angle at which the cutting device addresses the workpiece can be adapted to various angles.
Abstract: A turner holds a wood blank while positioning it adjacent a cutting bit of a router to cut the blank into a shaped cylindrical object. The turner includes a mandrel and two mandrel wheels attachable to ends of the mandrel, which each have finger gripping portions. A wood block is disposed on the mandrel and the wheels are attached to the mandrel. Spacers may be used to position the wood block. The mandrel/wood block assembly is then moved adjacent a cutting bit, such as a router bit, to remove wood from the wood block. This enables generally cylindrically shaped objects to be formed which may then be polished and finished and used in pens, mechanical pencils, handles and like holders.

Abstract: The invention comprises an automatic lathe apparatus adapted to be programmed for automatically cutting work pieces into contours with a pair of radial saw blades. The apparatus has an elongated frame with a center drive mechanism movably mounted on the frame intermediate the ends of the frame to accommodate variable length work pieces. The center drive mechanism provides opposing drive spindles independently driven to engage a pair of work pieces at one of their ends and drive them thereby. A pair of tail stock spindles are movably mounted and adjustable at the ends of the frame and have air operated cylinders to drive the spindles into engagement with the other ends of the work pieces. A screw operated platform is power driven by a screw to drive longitudinally along the length of the frame.
Abstract: A hollow shaft, threaded on the interior, permits a workpiece, having a square cross section, to be rotated therein and thereby moved axially to be driven against a cutting edge to form the dowel.
