  • Patent number: 9205570
Abstract: A hollow turning device comprises a tool handle, a cutting bar extending from one end of the tool handle having a longitudinal axis and a cross section at least a portion of which is non-circular, and a cutting tool disposed at a distal end of the cutting bar. A tool rest is disposed adjacent the work piece. A torque arrestor has a pair of spaced apart cooperating rollers between which the cutting bar extends, the cooperating rollers being spaced apart to fittingly receive and restrain the cutting bar to allow motion of the cutting bar between the cooperating rollers to facilitate motion of the cutting tool within the hollow to shape the inside of the work piece, wherein the non-circular portion of the cutting bar cross section prevents vertical movement and rotation of the cutting bar along its longitudinal axis when the cutting tool engages the work piece.

  • Patent number: 7264028
Abstract: A cutting tool piece is provided including a rear portion and a lead portion, the lead portion including a front section having an upper side angled downwardly and forwardly and a lower side angled upwardly and forwardly to form a transverse lead cutting edge. The rear portion includes a hole to secure the tool piece to a cutting tool and transverse cutting edges extending outwardly from side walls of the front section. A system is also described for cutting a bowl by coring out an interior portion of a wood block by applying the cutting tool which is curved and rotatably mounted to a post. Its lead end with the tool piece attached creates a circular groove. The cutting tool is advanced on a path which curves toward the central axis of the lathe.

  • Patent number: 5224529
Abstract: A lathe tool and toolrest assembly is disclosed in which a cutting blade is attached across one end of a blade mounting shaft, which shaft may be rotated and/or slid lengthways with respect to the sleeve portion of a toolrest comprising a T-bar. A handle is attached to the other end of the blade mounting shaft for manipulating the tool. The tool may be used to remove a cylindrical core from a workpiece mounted on the lathe, or successively smaller cores so as to produce a set of nesting bowls. A set of blade attachments is also provided to hollow out a cylindrical core through a narrow opening in a workpiece. A frusto-conical core may be removed from a workpiece in conjunction with a double T-bar toolrest which serves as a universal joint when manipulating the tool.
