  • Patent number: 9682492
Abstract: A woodworking jig is used to set cutter height and horizontal fence position when forming lock miter joints with a forty-five degree (45°) lock miter cutter on a router table or shaper. Vertical and horizontal reference lines are formed on the exterior surface of the jig. Setup is accomplished by adjusting the cutter height and fence position until the appropriate reference lines on the jig align with centerlines or centerline-derived lines on the edge of the stock. Using the appropriate reference lines, the jig is used to complete setups for standard lock miter joints with boards of equal thickness, non-standard lock miters joints with boards of different thicknesses, and offset lock miter joints. The jig has no moving parts, requires no calibration or measuring devices, and works with any lock miter router bit and most shaper cutters. Abstract: A guide comprises one or more brackets for securing the guide to a cutting tool, a horizontal support member secured to and moveable with respect to the brackets, and one or more arm assemblies secured to the horizontal support member and adapted to secure a working piece relative to the horizontal support member. With the working piece secured to the guide in this manner, the working piece may be readily advanced over a blade of the cutting tool by grasping and moving the horizontal support member relative to the brackets, thus ensuring a precise cutting of the working piece while also allowing a user to keep their hands away from the blade.

  • Patent number: 7082974
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting dados in two boards used to form a box joint includes a support member and a rear member adapted for securing the apparatus to a miter of a table saw or to another type of a woodworking power tool. An insert assembly in the support member includes an adjustable elliptical pin having an oval shaped cross-section. The elliptical pin is adapted for rotational placement into a dado cut and, subsequent to its rotation sufficient to remove all slack intermediate the pin and the boards followed by a tightening thereof, for securing the boards in place for subsequent dado cuts. An insert is placed in the insert assembly and is used to establish the proper offset from the elliptical pin to a dado blade or other type of a cutting instrument. Different sized elliptical pins and inserts are used with different sized dado blades or cutting instruments. The step sequence necessary to make all of the dado cuts in both boards is described.

  • Patent number: 6880442
Abstract: A woodworking machinery jig and fixture system includes a track which is or may be attached to a fence, a convex-concave curved flip stop and a base which mounts the stop to the track. The stop has a projecting portion which penetrates the plane of the fence so the stop isn't lifted by the point of a mitered board. The stop also has a lower convex surface which faces the work support surface and curves up at both ends. The top leg of the stop is concave toward the fence to allow clearance for a zero-clearance board and make the stop adaptable to different track and fence configurations. The base has opposite sides of different widths bordered by steps on one side and a ramp on the other side so the base can be used in a large range of T-track slot widths. The arm mounting hole of the base is offset from the base mounting so as to provide an offset to accommodate a ¾? zero clearance board by turning the base a half turn relative to the slot.

  • Patent number: 6601493
Abstract: A fence system for a band saw. The band saw defines an actual cutting plane and has a table having a table surface defining a desired cutting plane. The fence system comprises a rail member, a base member, a locking assembly, a fence member defining a fence surface, and an adjustment system. The rail member is mounted on the table and defines a rail axis that is substantially perpendicular to the desired cutting plane. The base member is supported by the rail member. The locking assembly selectively locks the base member at a selected position along the rail axis. The adjustment system mounts the fence member to the base member at a selected angle relative to the rail axis. The base member defines a pivot point about which the fence member is rotated by the adjustment system, and the pivot point is adjacent to the rail member.

  • Patent number: 6578461
Abstract: The combination of a rip fence and a workpiece pusher are provided for a table saw or shaper. A preferred workpiece pusher moves along a track having a central portion aligned with the feed direction and having two end portions skewed with respect to the feed direction so that the workpiece pusher retracts into the rip fence at both limits of its travel. This allows a sawyer to retract the workpiece pusher on the infeed side of a table saw and begin a ripping operation in which he or she manually pushes the workpiece into the saw blade until the trailing end of the workpiece is close enough to the saw blade that the workpiece pusher can be moved out of the fence to engage the trailing end of the stock. The pusher can then be used to push the workpiece the rest of the way past the blade. This apparatus also allows a woodworker to operate a table-mounted cutting tool without using a workpiece pusher of the invention that is installed on that table.

  • Patent number: RE38612
Abstract: A router table fence having three nesting aluminum extrusions or spars, two of which lie under a longer third spar. By positioning the inner ends of the two lower spars adjacent to a router cutter protruding through a router table, it is possible to provide a fence, particularly when the lower spars are used with wood facings or sub-fences, that can be adjusted to closely surround the cutter. Lateral movement of the fence assembly adjusts the amount of cutter that contacts a workpiece manipulated past the cutter while contacting the fence. The cross sectional shapes of the spars are identical and are generally square, with structure that permits the upper, longer spar to rest on top of, and be attached in a manner permitting it to slide against, the lower two spars. T-shaped slots in each face of the spars accept fasteners that connect the spars together and also accept fasteners for a variety of accessories, such as hold-down devices and shields.
