Abstract: A medium transporting apparatus is used for transporting a label web including a carrier web and labels adhered thereto. A platen roller transports the label web in a transport path. A pressure roller is disposed downstream of the separating member with respect to the transport path, and causes the carrier web to be kinked. The pressure roller urges the carrier web against the platen roller. A support member is mounted on a cover and rotatably supports the pressure roller. The cover is pivoted between an open position and a closed. Immediately after the cover has moved to the closed position, the pressure roller contacts the platen roller and then slides by a predetermined amount on the circumferential surface of the platen roller in a direction away from the separating member. Thus, the carrier web sandwiched between the pressure and platen rollers becomes taut.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for releasably attaching support members to microfeature workpieces to support members are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, for example, a method for processing a microfeature workpiece including a plurality of microelectronic dies comprises forming discrete blocks of material at a first side of a support member. The blocks are arranged on the support member in a predetermined pattern. The method also includes depositing an adhesive material into gaps between the individual blocks of material and placing a first side of the workpiece in contact with the adhesive material and/or the blocks. The method further includes cutting through a second side of the workpiece to singulate the dies and to expose at least a portion of the adhesive material in the gaps. The method then includes removing at least approximately all the adhesive material from the support member and/or the workpiece with a solvent.

Abstract: We describe a peel and present mechanism (10) for use with labelling apparatus such as a label stock cartridge or cassette, or a label printer. The peel and present mechanism is configured to peel labels (18) from label stock (14) having a backing liner (16). The mechanism comprises a first, label stock carrying face bounded by a label-detachment edge (12,20) wherein, in use, said label stock passes in a longitudinal direction over said label stock carrying face and around said label-detachment edge (20) to peel and present labels (18), and wherein said label stock carrying face has a bent transverse surface profile (24) in a transverse direction perpendicular to said longitudinal direction such that, in use, said label stock is bent in said transverse direction whereby, as said label stock passes over said-label detachment edge, said longitudinal direction of said label stock defines a projected path for a label peeled from said label stock by said label-detachment edge.

Abstract: Various modifications to a printer to allow the printer to print on linerless adhesive media are described. In one embodiment, a release block is attached to the printer superior to a rubber drive roller. The release block limits the linerless adhesive media from contacting and/or remaining on the rubber drive roller when the linerless adhesive media is fed past print head. The release block may be a guide label, a piece of tape, or fixture. A guide label is adhesively attached and comprises a substrate, an adhesive layer, and release layers so that the linerless adhesive media does not stick to the guide label. Tape may be adhesively attached with a release layer attached to the tape. The fixture may be mechanically attached, magnetically attached, or adhesively attached to the printer. The release block may be removed at any time to allow for standard operation of the printer.

Abstract: The invention comprises separating the strippings of a strip of paper and of a precut prepreg into strippings to be discarded and blanks to be kept using a suction roller that is tangent to the strip along an action line. In a downstream position, a device collects the blanks on said rectilinear path, and a device closer to the roller discharges the strippings. The paper runs through the device along said rectilinear path while maintaining the blanks thereon, and a strip temporary diversion device, capable of orthogonal movement relative to the strip, temporarily diverts the strip and brings it closer to the roller in order to facilitate the initial peeling of the strippings.

  • Patent number: 8251115
Abstract: A postage label dispensing system for dispensing adhesive-backed labels includes a conveyance system for displacing a supply of label material along a feed path wherein the label material includes a face material having an adhesive backing and a liner material detachably bonded to the adhesive backing. The adhesive backing defines a pair of longitudinal adhesive strips and a non-adhesive region disposed therebetween. The liner material has a longitudinal cut disposed adjacent to, and aligned with, the non-adhesive region to define a pair of liner strips. A peeler plow is disposed downstream of a bending means which induces a bend in the label material along an axis substantially parallel to the longitudinal cut, i.e., in an area corresponding to the non-adhesive region, which bend produces an opening between the face material and the liner strips.

Thus, the chip can be released from the sheet from the outer peripheral side of the chip.

  • Patent number: 8092645
Abstract: During detachment of a die from an adhesive tape, the inner and outer portions of a first side of the die which is in contact with the adhesive tape is supported with a support surface. A collet contacts the inner and outer portions of a second side of the die opposite to the first side. Support is withdrawn from the outer portion of the die such that the outer portion of the second side of the die bends away from the collet while the support surface only supports the inner portion of the die. Vacuum suction from the collet is applied to attract the outer portion of the die towards the collet and the vacuum suction pressure is monitored until a threshold pressure is reached indicating that the outer portion of the die is contacting the collet. Thereafter, the collet is lifted while holding the die with vacuum suction to completely separate the die from the adhesive tape.
