Door Opening Apparatus Patents (Class 16/DIG7)
  • Patent number: 5964268
Abstract: An overhead door apparatus utilizing a torsion spring counterbalancing mechanism. The counterbalancing mechanism includes a worm drive ring-shaped gear winding mechanism for setting the appropriate torque or number of winds in the spring. A counting mechanism is provided to indicate to the installer the number of winds being given to the spring. Means are also provided for accommodating spring growth and contraction during winding and unwinding using the winding mechanism and during normal raising and lowering of the door. A spring clip gear retainer is disclosed for preventing rotation or creep of the worm drive gear and spur gear during normal raising and lowering of the door. A second embodiment is disclosed allowing more universal interchangeability of components between the left and right sides of the door system, easy snap-in assembly, and including a telescoping spring cover. Each embodiment includes a spring winding counter.

  • Patent number: 5549033
Abstract: A hydraulic operating device for gate movement comprises a gate pintleing unit (10) comprising a box (11) with rotating support body (37) for a shaft (12) having a first gear (20) integral therewith projecting into the box. The shaft (12) faces at the top a box (11) with one of its axial fixing ends (15) integral with the gate rotation axis. The device also comprises a hydraulic operating unit made up of a drive element (25) consisting of a central body (32) from which project opposed hydraulic cylinders (26,27) in which run respective pistons (28,29). Between the pistons is connected a rack (30) traversing the central body (32) to project laterally therefrom with its teeth. It is thus possible to prepare a gate for future automation by mounting only the box and subsequently inserting therein the operating unit.

  • Patent number: 5511284
Abstract: A door hold open device is disclosed for maintaining a door swingably mounted on a door jamb in an open position. The door hold open device includes an elongate track housing mounted on the door jamb, and a shaft disposed within the track housing. The shaft extends along a horizontal axis and is mounted for free rotation about the axis. A slider block having a threaded bore threadably engages a threaded portion of the shaft. The slider block is capable of moving linearly along the horizontal axis and causes the axial rotational movement of the shaft as it moves linearly from side-to-side. An arm link is pivotally connected at one of its ends to the slider block and pivotally connected at its other end to the door. The arrangement is such that upon manually opening and closing the door, the arm link moves the slider block linearly from side-to-side thereby causing the axial rotational movement of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 5210905
Abstract: A hand grip for pivotal attachment to a surface of a body, as on a vehicle. The hand grip has a U-shaped grip body with a web joining two arms. The free end of each arm is attached on a bearing pin. The bearing pin is swingably mounted on a bearing bracket so that the grip pivots around the axis of the bearing pin with respect to the bracket. A torsion spring normally returns the grip to a position of non-use. To prevent excessive impact and resulting noise upon the return movement, a friction brake, consisting of a molding of a wear resistant viscoelastic plastic material, has a bore which receives an axial region of the bearing pin. The bore diameter is smaller than that of the bearing pin or least is of a size that permits relative movement between the molding and the bearing pin while braking the movement of the bearing pin with respect to the bracket, for slowing the return of the grip to the non-use position.

  • Patent number: 5142735
Abstract: A door open position fixing device including a presser member adapted to abut against a vehicle door openable up to a predetermined angle defined for every vehicle of different kinds, and a driving mechanism for swingably driving the presser member to make the same press the door in an opening direction thereof and maintain an open condition of the door. The door open position fixing device is provided with a detecting device for detecting a swing degree of the presser member and a control device for controlling the driving mechanism so that the swing degree of the presser member detected by the detecting device becomes equal to a predetermined value preliminarily set for the door of the every vehicle of different kinds.

  • Patent number: 4805263
Abstract: A finger pull for attachment to intersecting relatively transverse side and edge faces of a panel and which has a main base portion and an auxiliary base portion integrally connected along one edge of the main base portion. The main base portion has a flat mounting face at one side and the auxiliary base portion has a flat mounting face at one side that is disposed coplanar with the mounting face of the main base portion. A layer of pressure sensitive adhesive is adhered to the mounting faces of the main and auxiliary base portions and the connecting portion is made sufficiently thin to bend and allow the auxiliary base portion to be moved to a position extending transverse to the main base portion.

  • Patent number: 4194264
Abstract: A releasable latch, for attachment to a door check unit having a cylinder and a piston, and serving releasably to secure a door in an open position. A lever is freely slidable along the rod of the piston and is tiltable on the rod for releasable locking engagement. A cam and follower are actuable from a pre-set position to tilt the lever into locking engagement when the door is opened beyond a predetermined limit and then released. On release of the lever from locking engagement with the piston rod the cam and follower are returned to their pre-set position.

  • Patent number: 4040144
Abstract: A typical door closer has a cylinder in which a piston reciprocates to compress a spring. An assistor for such a closer has a cylindrical shell fastened to one end of and continuing the cylinder. The shell has a barrier wall at one end adjacent the cylinder, a partition wall dividing the shell into a booser compartment and a main compartment, and a head wall at the other end. Air under regulated pressure is supplied to the main compartment, wherein the air presses a main plunger tube, extending through the partition wall, against a booster plunger having a rod extending through the barrier wall and abutting the piston. A port in the plunger tube receives air from the main compartment through the tube. In some plunger tube positions the port is blocked by the partition wall and in other plunger tube positions opens into the first compartment. A check valve when open allows air flow from the booster compartment to the main compartment.
