Abstract: The machine for removing burrs from slabs (1) issuing from a continuous casting installation and cut to the desired length by oxygen cutting, is of the type comprising a rotor (10) carrying on its periphery self-retractable hammers (11). The rotor (10) comprises a hub (12) on which are fixed, at each end, an end flange (13) in the form of a circular collar and, between these two end flanges (13), pairs (14) of semi-flanges (15) which are in the form of semi-circular collars and are adjacent and opposed. Each pair (14) of semi-flanges (15) is evenly spaced apart in the longitudinal direction of the hub (12) and one of the semi-flanges (15) of each pair (14) is offset in this longitudinal direction relative to the other of the semi-flanges (15) of this pair (14). The invention also provides a rotor employed in this type of burr-removing machine.

  • Patent number: 5464053
Abstract: A process for semiliquid casting ingots from which to produce high-mechanical-performance die castings, whereby a metal alloy in the form of pigs and containing ceramic particles is smelted in a smelting furnace, transferred to a ladle, degassed, and fed into a pressurized furnace from which it is cast in the semiliquid state by feeding it at the solidification stage and under laminar flow conditions into a static mixer. At the outlet of the mixer the rheocast material is collected under laminar flow conditions, possibly with the interposition of a siphon type collecting tank and with protective gas shielding, through a cooled metal die, and solidified into a single billet. The billet is then guided by rollers past a saw and cut into pieces from which to obtain ingots of desired weight and size.

  • Patent number: 5137075
Abstract: Apparatus for continuously casting strip material comprising a casting drum rotatable about a first axis, a pair of cheek members including portions slidably engageable with sides of the casting drum mounted for rotation about a second axis spaced from said first axis and a casting belt wrapped around a portion of the cheek members together defining a converging casting arc. The cheek members include peripheral surfaces engageable by marginal edges of the casting belt which maintain a variable casting gap between a casting surface on the belt and a casting surface on the drum. The eccentric mounting of the cheek members with respect to the casting drum cause the spacing between the belt and the drum to decrease as the end of the casting arc is reached. The cheek members each include tapered side surfaces which together with the casting drum define ear receiving recesses that increase in a radial direction as the end of the casting arc is approached.
