The foam material preferably comprises particulate matter comprised of agglomerated fly ash material, and, preferably, gaseous material in pores within the foam material. In an alternate configuration, the lightweight structural member comprises two tubular members, one nested inside the other, wherein the annular volume between the tubular members is filled with metallic foam material. A method for manufacturing the structural members is also described.

Abstract: Mechanisms are described for selectively closing grille and/or bumper openings. These mechanisms may be operated in response to one or more vehicle parameters. Closure mechanism control signals may be delivered to such mechanisms along a vehicle databus. In addition, vehicle parameters used in determining the control of such mechanisms may be sensed and provided along the databus to a controller which then processes the parameter information for determining whether to open or close the vehicle grille closing mechanism and/or the vehicle bumper opening closing mechanism.

Abstract: A heat exchanger system is provided including a first and second heat exchanger each configured to pass air therethrough. The second heat exchanger is mounted upstream of the first heat exchanger. The second heat exchanger may be selectively movable between a first position and a second position such that an amount of the air is diverted from the second heat exchanger to the first heat exchanger when the second heat exchanger is in the first position. Alternately, the second heat exchanger may be spaced from the first heat exchanger, with at least one selectively openable shutter mounted adjacent to the first and second heat exchangers. The at least one shutter is movable between a first position and a second position such that an amount of the air is diverted from the second heat exchanger to the first heat exchanger when the at least one shutter is in the first position.

Abstract: In a snowmobile or other vehicle, ventilation of ambient air to the engine compartment is necessary. However, from time to time when encountering deep snow or extremely cold temperatures, it may be necessary to restrict the inflow of ambient air into the engine compartment. An adjustable air vent having a sliding ventilation grill adjusts the air flow. The air vent has actuators for adjusting the air flow that are simple and easily manually operable by an operator even when wearing gloves or mittens without the need of any tools.
