  • Patent number: 11661827
Abstract: A process for aging gas lift valves utilizing a controlled decompression to prevent damage to seals of the gas lift valves. The process includes pressuring one or more gas lift valves to a predetermined pressure (e.g., 5000 psig) and maintaining this pressure for a predetermined time (e.g. five minutes). After this time period, decompression is performed in discrete steps. For instance, the pressure of the pressure vessel may be reduced in predetermined pressure increments (i.e. reductions). After each pressure reduction, the reduced pressure is maintained for a predetermined time. This allows gasses and fluids within the elastomeric O-rings time to dissipate without causing damage to the seals.

  • Patent number: 10738570
Abstract: A safety valve features a flow tube operated flapper for the normal open and closed positions that can be obtained with one or two control lines to a principal operating piston. Pressure applied to the piston moves the flow tube to rotate the flapper open behind the flow tube. Release of pressure to the principal piston allows a closure spring to return the flow tube up to let the flapper close. A secondary piston can drive the flow tube with applied pressure through a control line. Cycling the applied pressure in combination with an indexing mechanism allows the flapper to be locked open and then released to normal operation. The pistons act as backup for each other as they both drive the flow tube. The flow tube has a clearance fit to the body in the locked open position to exclude debris from the flapper.

  • Patent number: 10087712
Abstract: In wellbore completions it is desirable to cement or otherwise seal the casing to the wellbore. Many times such operations include sealing the interior of the casing against flow. In those instances a means to open the interior of the casing to fluid flow and thereby establish circulation in the well upon command is needed. Additionally it is desirable to be able to pressurize the well several times prior to establishing circulation. In an embodiment of the current invention an interior sleeve block fluid flow through ports in the housing. The inner sleeve is coupled to a j-slot so that a pressurization cycle will move the inner sleeve and cause the inner sleeve to rotate a predetermined distance. Upon reaching the access position in the j-slot the sleeve is allowed to move to a fully open position.

  • Patent number: 7878255
Abstract: The downhole tool assembly has a sleeve with a continuous j-slot, a lug rotator ring configured to move axially relative to the sleeve and having a lug configured to move within the continuous j-slot, and a rupture disk configured to prevent the lug from moving within the continuous j-slot during run-in. The method includes lowering the downhole tool assembly into a well bore on a tool string, rupturing the rupture disk, allowing the lug to move within the continuous j-slot, and setting the downhole tool assembly by lifting upward and pushing downward on the tool string.

  • Patent number: 7591305
Abstract: The present invention provides a tool capable of being set and released. A novel arrangement of a push sleeve in the spring body eliminates several shear pins while an internal J slot formed directly on the mandrel significantly reduces the size of the lower drag body and thus the length of the tool. An internal pathway between the inner mandrel and the mandrel body selectively provide increase flow through the packer tool to facilitate running in of the tool.

  • Publication number: 20090114400
Abstract: A top sub for connection to a production well tubing string is movable between an engaged position and a disengaged position relative to a mandrel. The engaged position allows an anchor to be set in a well casing by rotating the tubing string. Tension can be applied to the tubing string to move the top sub to the disengaged position, allowing the tubing string to be rotated without rotating the mandrel. The anchor can be moved to a different position, without pulling the tubing string to the surface, by removing tension from the tubing string to move the top sub from the disengaged position to the engaged position, rotating the tubing string in an opposite direction to release the anchor, and resetting the anchor by again rotating the tubing string. Embodiments in which a sealed internal volume of the swivel remains constant are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7281584
Abstract: A downhole apparatus such as multi-cycle circulating subs used during downhole drilling operations includes a piston (42) slidably mounted in a body (4) between positions in which at least one aperture (40) in the body is opened and closed. Movement of the piston (42) is controlled by a pin (86) secured to one of the body and a control member, and a control groove (52) in which a portion of the pin is received formed in the other of the body and control member. An arrangement of elements (32,76) respectively connected to the control member and body is such that, as the control member moves axially, increasing lengths of the elements locate adjacent one another so as to provide resistance to relative rotation in at least one direction of the control member and body. The relative rotation is rotation which presses the control member against the control groove. The risk of damage to the control pin is thereby reduced.

  • Patent number: 7210534
Abstract: The lock allows two members in a downhole tool to be temporarily held together. In an application where mandrel movement is dictated by pressure cycling in combination with a J-slot mechanism, such as in a downhole valve, the mandrel is releaseably retained to an adjacent connector against mechanical impacts. The mandrel features an extended collet that moves relatively to a floating sleeve during pressure cycles. At some point the collet heads rise to an elevated groove that causes them to contact a no-go shoulder for locking. The lock is defeated be removing the collet heads from the elevated groove for normal tool operation.
