Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a method and apparatus for distributing particulate matter over a surface by spreading. The apparatus for distributing particulate matter over a surface is adapted to be fitted to a prime mover. The apparatus includes a mounting frame for attaching the apparatus to the prime mover, at least one grading blade carried by the mounting frame and mounted moveable laterally sideways relative to the prime mover and an actuator to controllably move the grading blade to move the grading blade substantially sideways relative to the prime mover. The lateral sideways movement of the apparatus relative to prime mover enables particulate matter to be moved independent of the direction of travel of the prime mover.

  • Patent number: 4936390
Abstract: A three-point hitch mounted in-row tiller has a conventional three-point hitch mounted frame member with an outrigger arm pivotally mounted to the frame member in a manner that accommodates pivotal movement of the outrigger in relation to the frame member about two orthogonal axes. Pivotal movement about one of the axes causes tilting of a working tool mounted on the outrigger arm, and pivotal movement about the other axis causes vertical lifting and depth control of the working tool. Various working tool embodiments, including several with flexible teeth, and a mechanical/hydraulic sensor apparatus are also included.

  • Patent number: 4691784
Abstract: A lawn edger attachment for a tractor including a boom universally pivoted at its inner end to the tractor for both horizontal and vertical movement of its outer end, and normally angling acutely outwardly from the tractor, a circular cutting blade mounted beneath the outer end of the boom for rotation both about its own horizontal axis and about a vertical axis relative to the boom, a manually operable mechanism for pivoting the boom to position the blade above and in the plane of the division line between grassy and paved ground areas, and to lower it into ground engagement at the division line, the mechanism having a novel arrangement reducing the apparent weight of the boom and blade to the tractor operator, and a manual operating mechanism for pressing the blade into penetrating relation to the ground, the mechanism providing a great mechanical advantage in multiplying the manual force applicable by the operator of the tractor.

  • Patent number: 4682427
Abstract: A laterally-extending boom (1) is of a box-constructed type, and has two right angle drive gear units (19, 28) installed at either end, the first of which (19) in receipt of drive transmitted by a cardan shaft (17) from the tractor power take-off (18) which it relays through the boom via a transmission consisting of a first cardan shafts (22) and a second cardan shaft (23) and an intermediate shaft (21) journalled to the boom structure; the second cardan shaft (23) drives the second right angle gear unit, the output shaft of which drives a further cardan linkage providing the final connection to the gearbox of the trench digger (32).

  • Patent number: 4629006
Abstract: A lawn edger attachment for tractors consisting of a base member adapted to be mounted at the side of a tractor, a boom universally pivoted to the base and angling laterally outwardly from the base, and a generally vertical rolling circular blade mounted beneath the outer end of the boom for rotation both on its own axis and about a generally vertical axis. A single manual operating handle operates to pivot the boom horizontally to position the blade directly above a division line between the grass of a lawn and an adjacent paved area, as the tractor is driven in a direction parallel to the division line, and to pivot the boom vertically, as may be necessary to rest the blade on the ground surface at the division line, and a foot pedal then supplies a mechanically multiplied force to press the blade downwardly to penetrate the ground.

  • Patent number: 4516639
Abstract: A powered landscape rake for fine grading of and for stone and debris removal from a landscape surface is shown according to the teachings of the present invention. The rake of the present invention includes a drum rotatably mounted in a drum frame. The drum frame is mounted to a turntable assembly for allowing the drum frame to pivot about an axis generally perpendicular to the drum frame and which is located generally midway of the drum frame. A frame member is attached to the turntable and extends to a point under the tractor frame in front of the front wheels. The free end of the frame member is mounted for pivoting and swiveling to a frame attachment member. First and second cylinders are further attached to the turntable for positioning the drum frame at any desired angle in a vertical plane to the landscape and allow the drum frame to sway in a horizontal plane about the front frame attachment point.

  • Patent number: 4332299
Abstract: A cultivator attachment is mounted to the side of a tractor and includes an outwardly projecting boom assembly with first and second boom sections. The boom sections telescope and a cultivator head with a rotating cultivator member is connected to the free end of the second boom section. A first hydraulic cylinder raises and lowers the boom assembly while a second such cylinder extends and retracts the second boom section to move the cultivator head inwardly toward and outwardly away from the tractor to avoid obstacles in its path. A hydraulic motor on the head rotates the cultivator member about its axis. A side tilt mechanism located at the free end of the second boom section tilts the axis of the cultivator member in the plane of the boom assembly to direct the discharge of material from the cultivator head toward or away from the tractor during cultivation.

  • Patent number: 4277080
Abstract: A quick disconnect arrangement for use on a tractor or other such farm or grove vehicle principally involving the use of an elongate structural member having an essentially straight mid portion, with this member being removably supported from the tractor at its front and rear ends. This elongate structural member is supported outboard of the adjacent driving wheel of the tractor, and its mid portion is utilized for the support of a rotary implement such as a cultivator or mower, or alternatively for other implements, such as a banker or a de-banker. Advantageously, the front and rear support members are in effect quick disconnect means such that the operator can in a period of a few minutes entirely free the tractor from the elongate support member as well as the implement carried thereby, thus enabling the tractor to be used for an entirely different purpose.

  • Patent number: 4037670
Abstract: An improved blade clamping mechanism for a motor grader blade which has blade support rails carried in pivoted blade support means for lateral sliding movement, and in which confining surfaces in the blade support means restrict both vertical and fore-and-aft movement of the rails in the support means. A clamp lever is pivoted on the circle of the motor grader and has a clamp arm which can be turned in a vertical plane against the bottom of the lower support rail with a high mechanical advantage to force the rail against an overlying confining surface; and a single action hydraulic cylinder and piston unit which turns the lever simultaneously presses a clamp shoe against the rear of the upper support rail. The clamps are normally locked by hydraulic pressure on the piston, and released by moving a manually controlled valve to a drain position so that a return spring acting on the clamp shoe can move the shoe and the lever to a release position.
