Patent number: 4391051Abstract: An apparatus for making ski tracks and/or levelling ski slopes is mounted in front of a driving vehicle so as to be freely vertically movable relative to the vehicle to adjust its position to varying snow heights encountered in treating the snow cover. Front and rear supports such as sleds or rollers are pivotally mounted on the frame and support the apparatus on the snow cover. A rotating cutting tool for treating the snow is mounted on an arm which is pivotally joined to the frame, to allow the cutting tool to swing upward and downward relative to the frame in response to varying snow heights. The cutting tool support arm may be resiliently mounted to bias the cutting tool in a downward direction to provide a flatter snow surface. At least one of the front and rear supports may be swingably mounted similarly to the cutting tool. The apparatus produces a flatter snow cover in areas of varying length of waves in the snow surface.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 1981Date of Patent: July 5, 1983Inventor: Anton R. Bachler

Patent number: 4300639Abstract: A soil cultivating machine has a row of cultivating members which are mechanically driven and rotatable about upwardly extending axes positioned on a transverse row. An elongated, transverse hollow frame portion supports at least twenty shafts of the cultivating members and the shafts are preferably about 15 cms apart. Transmission parts of the members are housed in the frame portion. The frame portion comprises two U-shaped parts clamped together at longitudinal edges between which edges gasket material and spacer members hold the longitudinal edges at a predetermined distance from one another. The cultivating members can each have a single downwardly extending tine with an upper flat fastening portion that extends substantially transversely of the rotary axis of the cultivating member, and a lower operative portion that joins the flat fastening portion eccentrically of the rotary axis of the cultivating member.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1979Date of Patent: November 17, 1981Inventor: Cornelis van der Lely

Patent number: 4240508Abstract: A ground working implement comprises a frame, a rotary ground working unit supported by the frame and rotatable about a horizontal axis, a transmission for the working unit, a cover assembly covering the working unit and including a movable cover, and a holder detachably engageable with the frame and the cover to hold the cover while the cover is in contact with the ground at a position to the rear of and spaced from the peripheral portion of the working unit in contact with the ground. Thus the cover cooperates with the working unit to serve as a stand for holding the implement in its upright position. The cover is also holdable in a raised position by the holder to facilitate the maintenance of the working unit. The cover can also be shaped to have a front contact portion and a rear contact portion continuous therewith and positioned at a lower level than the front contact portion with an intermediate portion therebetween held out of contact with the ground by a space.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 1979Date of Patent: December 23, 1980Assignee: Kubota Ltd.Inventors: Toshio Ishiguro, Minoru Kyotani

Patent number: 4217835Abstract: A depth control skid and seed boot assembly is disclosed that is particularly useful in a sod seeding implement for adjusting the maximum depth of cut of a cutting wheel and for adjusting the depth of the seed boot independently of each other. An arm rotatably mounting a pair of cutting wheels slidably receives the forward section of the skid. The rear of the skid is bolted to a bracket assembly vertically positionable with respect to the arm for adjusting the depth of cut. The bracket assembly pivotally carries the seed boot which is yieldingly and adjustably held in position with respect to the ground by a bolt and spring assembly. The seed boot can pivot upwardly against the bias of the spring out of the way of obstacles.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 1978Date of Patent: August 19, 1980Assignee: Deere & CompanyInventor: Robert E. Patent number: 4088195Abstract: A cultivator has a row of soil working members journalled in an elongated frame portion. The frame portion is supported on side-by-side elongated elements that extend generally parallel to the direction of travel. The elements are preferrably curved and can be arranged in a forward group attached at the front of frame portion and a rear group of different-shaped elements that are interconnected to the frame portion to bear on the ground at the rear of the soil working members. The rear group can be fastened to a central carrier and curved to form a supporting roller. The elements can be inherently resilient and/or interconnected with spring mechanisms so that the soil working members respond to ground undulations.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1976Date of Patent: May 9, 1978Inventor: Cornelis van der Lely

Patent number: 4042041Abstract: A rotary harrow has soil-working members that are protected and, to some extent, supported from the ground by an elongated transverse beam that is pivoted to the front of the frame. The beam is spring biased to an operative location adjacent the soil-working member connections and vertically adjustable with respect to those members. The beam is rounded off at its lower surfaces to level the ground and ride along the ground. If debris becomes lodged between the beam and soil-working members, the beam can pivot forwardly against spring opposition to release the debris. The pivot axis for the beam is substantially directly above the beam itself.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1975Date of Patent: August 16, 1977Inventor: Cornelis van der Lely

Patent number: 4016933Abstract: A rotary harrow has a plurality of soil working members each of which has a support and a central shaft that forms the axis of rotation of said member. Each support has a holder at each end thereof and a downwardly extending tine secured in each holder. The holder is preferably inclined so that its top is located further from the central shaft than its bottom and also leads in the direction of normal rotation relative to the holder bottom. The holders are sleeves with integral screens and the sleeves receive the fastening portions of tines. The holders together with the support form tine mountings configured to minimize damage from stones and other debris. The tine fastening portions are held inclined to the vertical as well as soil working portions which are bent first towards one another then away, so that the lower tine tips are located further from the shaft axis than are the corresponding fastening portions.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 1975Date of Patent: April 12, 1977Inventor: Cornelis van der Lely

Patent number: 3960219Abstract: A soil cultivator has at least one rotor mounted for rotation about a horizontal axis and rows of rigid soil working tines are secured on the rotor to be driven through the soil in a direction opposite to the travel direction of the cultivator. The tines can be curved with their free ends oriented to the rear with respect to their direction of movement through the soil. Stationary tines can be affixed in front of the rotor so that the rotor tines are moved between the stationary tines. Two rotors can be mounted side-by-side on a common shaft or axis of rotation and the shaft journalled in side plates having edge rims. A row of rotatable disc-like supporting members is arranged zig zag on a beam and the beam has arms that are adjustably connected to the cultivator frame at the rear of the rotor. Projections on the bottoms of the members induce rotation thereof. The rotor or rotors can also be supported by an elongated roller having a helical rib.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 1974Date of Patent: June 1, 1976Inventor: Cornelis van der Lely
