Relatively Fixed Drive For An Advancing Tool Patents (Class 173/165)
  • Patent number: 10435950
Abstract: A rotary table drive with a top plate and a bottom plate cooperating to define a bore and an adjacent sealed gear housing. A bushing adapter passes through the bore and is configured to receive a bushing to mate with a segment of polygonal drill pipe allowing rotational motion to be imparted thereto. The device includes a ring bearing having an inner ring affixed rigidly to the bushing adapter and an outer ring rigidly affixed to the bottom plate, and a drive gear within the sealed gear housing mated to the bushing adapter such that the bushing adapter is rotated in response to rotation of the drive gear. The bearing is sealed against exposure to the elements by being surrounded on all sides by a combination of the top plate, bottom plate, and bushing adapter.

  • Patent number: 5186262
Abstract: An electro-hydraulically operated tool apparatus installs and removes bolts of track shoes for assembling and disassembling endless track assemblies. In the assembly procedure, a wrench of the tool apparatus engages the head portion of a track shoe bolt and rotates the bolt in a clockwise direction at a relatively high speed to thread a nut onto the bolt and secure the track shoe to the track chain. The tool apparatus senses the torque and at a pre-set level, a transmission of the apparatus automatically shifts to rotate the wrench at a relatively low speed. At this point, the tool apparatus starts measuring the angle of rotation, and at a pre-determined angle of about 120.degree., the wrench stops rotating. The rotation of the bolt an additional 120.degree. after the pre-torque level is reached applies the desired torque value to the bolted joint. In the disassembly procedure, the wrench engages the head portion of the bolt and applies a large down pressure to the bolt.

  • Patent number: 4429753
Abstract: A gear drive used in water well drilling or blast hole drilling to remove overburden in open pit coal mining, not only rotates the drill pipe but also pulls down or pulls out the drill pipe as it rotates. A hydraulic motor within a housing operates a first gear train to rotate an output shaft at varying speeds. A drill pipe is projected through the output shaft. A plurality of feed rollers are mounted on spherical bearings, the outside diameter of the rollers having a concave recess for operative registry with the drill pipe. When the output shaft is rotated, each roller cocks and digs into the feed pipe causing it to rotate with the output shaft. The pull down and pull up section is driven by a hydraulic motor within the housing through a second gear train. The second gear train drives a plurality of third gear trains for individually driving the respective feed rollers.
