    Abstract: A thermogravimetric instrument for measuring variations in the weight of a sample caused by temperature variations of the sample. The instrument is equipped with a stopper mechanism for protecting the pivot to facilitate replacing a balance beam. A thermogravimetric instrument comprising: a balance beam 1 placed horizontally; a sample holder 9 located at one end of said balance beam; a torsion wire 3 mounted as a pivot and connected with the other end; a junction portion permitting a sample container side of the balance beam to be detached; and one or more stopper mechanisms using fixed stoppers 4 and metal plates 5. The stopper mechanisms limit relative movement between a supported portion of the torsion wire and the balance beam to within a prescribed amount to limit force applied to the torsion wire during detachment of the balance beam.

    Abstract: An apparatus for selecting between a mechanical or electrical mode for controlling the flow of fibers by motor driven feed lift aprons from a plurality of hoppers to a plurality of weigh pans for producing a predetermined blend of fibers. The mechanical mode utilizes a balance arm assembly which can be set to feed a predetermined amount of fibers into a weigh pan. The electrical mode utilizes thumbwheel switches which can be set for regulating the amount of fibers to be fed into each weigh pan. The electrical mode system also utilizes a comparator for comparing a signal representing the actual weight of fibers in the weigh pan that is produced by a load cell with a signal representing the desired weight of fibers produced by the thumbwheel switches and generates a control signal responsive thereto. The control signal is used for operating a motor driven feed lift apron associated with the hopper.

    Abstract: In a weighing machine a flexure bar is attached as a cantilever to a beam. The force to be measured is applied to the cantilever end of the flexure bar by a weighing lever. In order to protect the flexure bar against overloading the beam is mounted to be pivotable and is held by a spring force acting counter to the direction of action of the force to be measured against a first fixed stop. The spring force is chosen such that said beam moves out of contact with the first stop when an overload is applied to the weighing lever. In addition, a second fixed stop is provided to restrict the pivotal movement of the weighing lever and thus prevent the transmission of further force into the flexure bar.

    Abstract: A toy balancing scale used to teach children the proper relationship between the number of objects and/or the value of numbers, has a base having an upstanding support and pivoted on the support is a horizontal balance bar. At each end of the balance bar is a small peg on which objects can be attached.On the backside of the balance bar is a housing having essentially a "spade-like" shape. The distance within the housing from the top of the spade to the bottom of the stem of the spade is longer than the distance from the top of the spade to the side projections. Mounted on the support is a sliding member having a peg which projects normal to the surface of the sliding member. The member slides vertically in the support and the peg fits in the spade-like housing. When the peg is at the top of the housing the balance bar is held in a locked position about the peg.     Abstract: The dash-pot connected to the balance beam of a portable balance is sealed about the piston rod of the dash-pot by a rubber ring mounted in the cover of the dash-pot and resiliently deformed when an abutment leg projecting from the balance housing is lifted from a supporting surface.
