Patent number: 5097103Abstract: A locking apparatus for electrically isolating a trolley-type electrical connector on the end of a conduit on an electrical mining machine or the like, to prevent an electrical connection from being made with the connector. The locking apparatus comprises an open-ended sheath made from an electrically insulating material, slidably mounted on the end of the conduit, to slide between an extended position in which the sheath surrounds the connector, and a retracted position in which the connector projects through the open end of the sheath. The sheath has aligned openings on opposite sides thereof, adjacent the open end of the sheath. A locking member is adapted to extend through the aligned openings and substantially block the open end of the sheath. A retaining cord tethers the locking member to the sheath. A lock can be used to secure the locking member in its position blocking the open end of the sheath.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 1990Date of Patent: March 17, 1992Assignee: Peabody Coal CompanyInventors: James B. Patent number: 5079543Abstract: A monitoring device is provided for at least one current pickup of a conveyor truck in a conveyor system running on tracks, whereby when viewed in a direction of travel the current pickup has a profile configuration which changes through wear as the pickup traverses a live rail. The device comprises a receiver for a test signal fixedly mounted on one side of the live rail, a transmitter mounted on the other side of the live rail, a test signal evaluating device that responds to a modified profile configuration of the current pickup resulting from wear, and an alarm signal triggered at a predetermined level of wear of the current pickup.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1990Date of Patent: January 7, 1992Assignee: Buropatent AGInventor: Herbert Pircher

Patent number: 4535861Abstract: This power source is created by the motors of an electric vehicle, such as a subway train, because when being braked, its motors become generators, and the current created may be used to heat and pump hot and cold water into tall building structures. Primarily, the power source includes an additional circuit in the vehicle, for take-off of the generated current to a motor driven compressor and an electrically heated boiler. The system also includes a compressed air tank, a group of hot water tanks, and a group of cold water tanks.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1983Date of Patent: August 20, 1985Inventor: Janos Nagy

Patent number: 4286911Abstract: A semi-automated warehousing system for unitized loads, such as load carrying pallets, which are retained in storage racks arranged in a multiple lane, multiple tier array, is disclosed. The system employs a man operated stacker crane that travels upon a fixed rail and serves as a host vehicle for a radio controlled transfer vehicle which is powered by a rechargable battery. An elevator, which forms part of the crane, is mounted between masts of the crane and a man carrying cab is secured to the elevator. The transfer vehicle can move laterally away from the crane, in either direction, in response to radio command signals controlled by the operator in the cab. The transfer vehicle rides on support rails in the storage rack and, upon command, deposits or picks up a pallet. The battery which powers the transfer vehicle is recharged each time the vehicle returns to the elevator portion of the crane.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1979Date of Patent: September 1, 1981Assignee: Litton Systems, Inc.Inventor: John W. Patent number: 4155435Abstract: A device for receiving power from a rigid conductor extending in the direction of advance to an electrically driven, rail vehicle, which comprises current collecting members independently supported on a base through elastic members having a low spring constant, as far as possible, within the working ranges. The current collecting member has a higher predetermined vertical level than the average static height of the rigid conductor so as to be displaced back to the average static level of the rigid conductor. The current collecting member is maintained in a resilient condition during operation so that it is responsive to any sudden changes in pressure and thus prevent separation from the rigid conductor.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1978Date of Patent: May 22, 1979Assignee: Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd.Inventors: Tamisuke Kimura, Tomokazu Kashiwara, Hiroshi Yoshimoto

Patent number: RE29994Abstract: An urban mass transportation system is disclosed which makes use of storage battery powered vehicles. In view of the specific use which implies preestablished routing of the vehicles and preestablished stops at frequent intervals, the capacity of the batteries installed in each vehicle is commensurate to the capability of running for a limited distance. The vehicles are further provided with contact means, such as trolleys, for performing a fast recharge of the batteries at the stop stations, without removing the batteries. The stop stations are equipped with devices mating with the contact means and suitable for allowing a fast recharge. Electrical power is taken from an electrical distribution network independently from the routing of the vehicles.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 1977Date of Patent: May 15, 1979Inventor: Oscar Bossi
