Free-engine Type Patents (Class 192/63)
  • Patent number: 11692908
Abstract: External loading test apparatus having a test subsystem includes a structure with at least three pillars supporting a platform, the platform being configured to receive a podded electric propulsion motor in a hanging position while allowing operation of said pod, and the test subsystem for applying a force on the pod to simulate full scale external loading. The test subsystem comprises a pod actuator interface, an actuator, and an actuator structure interface.

  • Patent number: 11654997
Abstract: The present disclosure includes J-Gate adaptor assemblies for motorcycle clutch levers and related systems and methods. In one illustrative embodiment, a bracket on a side of a motorcycle serves as fulcrum for a lever rod mounted thereon via a heim joint. A lower end of the rod is attached to a clutch control cable. The rod extends upwardly, through a guide member with a guide channel formed as elongated slot extending in a first direction to a bend portion that extends in another direction to a “rest portion.” The rod may be levered in one direction in the guide channel to engage the clutch and in the opposite direction to disengage it. The rod may be held in the “rest” portion of the channel to retain the clutch in a disengaged position. Conversion kits and methods of converting and adapting motorcycles for using these types of assemblies are also included.

  • Publication number: 20090095591
Abstract: A retainer for sprags in an overrunning clutch is provided. The retainer is disposed between the inner and outer races of the clutch. The retainer includes first and second rings disposed about an axis and axially spaced from one another and a plurality of cross bars extending between the first and second rings. The plurality of cross bars are circumferentially spaced and define a plurality of openings. Each opening is configured to receive one of the sprags disposed between the inner and outer races of the clutch. At least the cross bars of the retainer are made from a tool steel, preferably S7 tool steel. The construction of the retainer increases the abrasion resistance of the retainer and extends the service life of the clutch.

  • Patent number: 4261452
Abstract: An overrunning clutch designed for use with engine starters and the like whereby the starter may apply its output to start the engine without damage due to overspeed of critical starting motor components after the engine has started and obtained running speed. The overrunning clutch of this invention is provided with two splines. The first a straight spline which allows axial translation of the starter output shaft and a second helical spline which assists in engagement and disengagement of interlocking face clutch jaws between the input drive shaft and the output drive shaft. A centrifugally restrained clutch engagement spring in combination with the helical spline permits overrunning with minimum wear of the face clutch jaws.
