Abstract: A container formed from at least one blank of sheet material includes a tray, a cover configured to close the tray, and a locking device. The tray includes a tray front panel. The cover includes a cover front panel that extends downwardly from a front edge of a cover top panel. The cover front panel is configured to be positioned in an at-least partially overlapping arrangement with the tray front panel when the cover is closed. The locking device includes a locking tab hingedly attached to the cover top panel and struck in part from the cover top panel and in part from the cover front panel. The locking device also includes a locking recess struck from an upper edge of the tray front panel. The locking device is configured such that the locking tab can be pressed down into the locking recess to selectively secure the cover to the tray in a closed and locked configuration.

Abstract: Described are filter cartridges comprising: a cartridge body and a filter media; a stem extending from the cartridge body, the stem having an inlet opening, an outlet opening, and a stem face that comprises a first valve driving surface and a second valve driving surface; and at least one lug attached to either the filter body or the stem having a leading engagement edge. The filter cartridges are suitable for translational insertion and rotational engagement of a manifold, wherein upon translation insertion, a valve engagement member of the filter cartridge engages a portion of a valve body of a manifold valve; during a first stage rotation, one or more retaining members of the filter cartridge engage a manifold cam of a manifold; and during a second stage rotation, the valve engagement member imparts rotational movement to the valve body. Systems and methods incorporating the filter cartridges are disclosed.

Abstract: A wrap-around expanded content label includes a base label free of adhesive, a booklet on the base label, and an overlaminate having a pressure sensitive adhesive layer on an underside thereof. The overlaminate overlies and adheres to the booklet, and opposite lateral portions of the overlaminate extend beyond the edges of the booklet to adhere to the base label. One lateral portion of the overlaminate is substantially permanently bonded to the base label adjacent a bound edge of the booklet. The other lateral portion of the overlaminate is resealably bonded to the base label adjacent a free lateral edge of the booklet.

Abstract: A method of applying a communication member carrying information to a packaging material includes feeding a packaging material in a first direction and applying a communication member to a surface of the packaging material with an adhesive. Both the communication member and the adhesive are simultaneously removable from the packaging material by a user such that substantially no adhesive residue remains on the bag upon communication member removal. A system for applying a communication member on a packaging material that is transported on a packaging material line includes a label applicator and a supply of communication members positioned in communication with the label applicator.

Abstract: A container having a fluid reservoir and a channel for receiving an insert. The channel allows the insert to be secured to the container for displaying a portion of the insert, such as a faceplate of the insert and/or a back end of the insert. The insert may also be visible through a transparent portion of the container. The insert may include a marking or advertising logo. For example, the insert may include a 3-dimensional logo that extends through at least a portion of the container. In an embodiment, the insert is made from a different material than the container. For example, the container may include a transparent glass material and the insert may include an aluminum material that is visible through the transparent glass material of the container.

Abstract: A tamper evident label with a fully enclosed peel tab is described. This label comprises a first edge, a second edge, a third edge, a fourth edge and a label interior. The label also comprises a tear strip comprising a first tab, a first portion having a first border and an opposing second border, a second portion having a third border and an opposing fourth border, and a scored edge. The second border of the first portion is adjacent the first edge of the label, the fourth border is adjacent the third edge of the label, and the scored edge is adjacent the first border and the third border of the first portion of the tear strip. The label further comprises a second tab comprising a first side and a second side. The first side is adjacent the first border, and the second side is adjacent the third border. Various embodiments of the label are also described.

Abstract: A greeting card having mechanically actuated moving portions is provided. The greeting card may include a panel having one or more folds, one or more flexible drive shafts coupled to the panel and having a flipping or moving portion, and a decorative portion coupled to at least one of the panel and the flipping or moving portion. Each flexible drive shaft may be coupled to the panel such that a portion is positioned on a first side of the fold and a portion is positioned on a second side of the fold. When the greeting card is opened, a moment arm is created in the flexible drive shaft which causes the flipping or moving portion to move from a first position to a second position. The decorative portion may move in response to the flipping or moving portion moving from the first position to the second position.

Abstract: A container including one or more labeling devices that can be detached from the container. Preferably the container can hold a plurality of different articles and includes a plurality of labeling devices for identifying the different articles. After the articles are removed from the container, the articles may be identified by the labeling devices by detaching the labeling devices and attaching or placing the labeling device on or near its corresponding article. Preferred labeling devices include one or more labeling areas that provide information regarding an article.

Abstract: A tag for positioning on containers for carrying item(s). The tag includes a base layer having a second status identifier that comprises a status identification symbol. The tag also includes a front layer having a top portion and a bottom portion and a removable tab connecting the top portion and the bottom portion. The bottom portion and the top portion are secured to the base layer. When the front layer is secured to the base layer, the front layer covers the second status identifier. The removable tab includes a first status identifier that is visible when the tab is retained to the front layer and, when the tab is removed, the second status identifier is visible.

Abstract: Packaging containers for liquids, such as beverages, comprise at least one sidewall comprising an abuse layer comprising a frangible flap; a zoned release coating on an inner surface of the abuse layer over an area that includes the frangible flap; and an inner layer; wherein upon peeling the frangible flap, a portion of the inner layer is exposed intact. A sanitary surface is provided for receiving a straw. Because there is not a pre-formed opening for the straw, the receipt by the inner layer of a straw conforms exactly to the straw, which fits snugly with the container during use.

Abstract: A system comprising a multiple-bag pack supported for dispensing, loading, and removal of bags on a structure. The pack includes a bag-attachment portion wherein the multiple bags are sequentially attached. Each bag is removable in sequence by separation from the pack along a parting feature. The bags are contained within the structure and the bag-attachment portion is folded outwards over a lip to secure the bag pack. The front edge of the outermost bag of the pack is drawn over another lip to open the bag for loading. The rear edge remains attached to the bag pack, thus fully distending the mouth of the bag. To change bags, the rear edge of the bag is separated from the pack and the first lip along the parting structure. The front edge of the loaded bag is removed from the second lip, and the bag is closed and removed from the structure.

Abstract: Improved matchbooks having separable message sheets are provided for. The novel matchbooks each comprise a comb of matches having a plurality of matches and a cover. The cover is attached to and folded over the comb such that the cover substantially encloses the comb when the cover is in a first closed position and permits a consumer to access the matches in the comb when the cover is in a second open position. The cover has igniting material on the cover on which the matches may be struck and ignited. The matchbooks also have a message sheet providing a substrate on which a message may be imprinted. The message sheet is separably connected to the cover such that the message sheet is separable from the cover. Thus, the message sheet may be removed from a novel matchbook by a consumer without compromising the integrity of the matchbook.

Abstract: A carton with a new dispenser that can be opened by a pull tab with this dispenser flap being placed in a corner of the top panel of the carton so that it is adjacent to the tops of the small necks of the bottles for easy opening and removal or for opening and reclosing. The dispenser flap is held in position by resistant tear lines but can be easily removed by an attached pull tab that is loosely connected to the top panel.

Abstract: A generally flat carton blank is arranged for assembly into a carton shape holding multiple cigarette packs. The carton blank has a defined periphery, and a generally flat promotional sheet overlies the carton blank within the outer periphery thereof. A portion of the promotional sheet is adhesively secured to the carton blank. In another embodiment a generally flat promotional sheet overlies the carton blank essentially within the outer periphery thereof. Both carton blank each with its associated promotional sheet may then be assembled and loaded with cigarette packs utilizing standard assembly machinery and standard procedures. Fold lines on the carton blank and the promotional sheet facilitate assembly of the carton blank into a carton shape with the promotional sheet inside the assembled carton.

Abstract: A flexible container with a wall structure comprised of multi-layer, flexible thin films, including a first film layer that is affixed to the wall structure by a releasable adherence and that incorporates a removable piece. The removable piece is incorporated into the first film layer such that, other than at least one continuous cut facilitating removal and any conspicuous printing on the removable portion, it is indistinguishable from the rest of the exterior of the package. The continuous cut allows for full or partial detachment of the removable portion from the first film layer so that only the releasable adherence prevents it from separating from the container. The removable piece is removed by peeling it away from the container, where the initiation of the peeling is facilitated by a smaller peel force adjacent the continuous cut.

Abstract: A packaging material is provided in a continuous roll for forming into a channel shaped receptacle for receiving and supporting a structure such as a food product to be packaged by an over-wrap material. The packaging material is formed from two substrate sheets connected together along side edges to form a coextensive laminate defining a center portion and two side strip portions where the center portion has a width arranged to form the bottom wall and the two side strip portions each have a width arranged to form a respective one of the upstanding side walls. The center portions can be separated and exposed by tearing away the side and end portions and the inside surface of the center portions carries printed indicia providing a remanent value therefor, such as a scratch-off type lottery game or a collectible card.

Abstract: A thin generally rectangular package for containing a farinaceous product such as dry mixes, cereals and the like including a portion that is removable from the carton with out opening or destroying the integrity of the package. The removable portion is contained on a slide that is sandwiched between a flat side of the carton and a panel fixed to the flat side. The slide is tethered to the flat side by a portion of the panel arranged to buckle outward from the plane of the flat side when the slide is pulled from between the flat side and the panel.

Abstract: A continuous web of food packaging inserts. The web includes a continuous base layer, a plurality of promotional items spaced along the length of the base layer, and an overlaminate overlying both the base layer and the promotional items. The overlaminate is sealed to the base layer around each of the promotional items. The web is perforated between adjacent promotional items to define the food packaging inserts between the perforations.

Abstract: A cardboard/paperboard box for cereal, a child's toy, etc., that includes an integral removable tattoo, gemstone applique or other body art for promotional purposes (i.e. a premium play element or “gift with purchase”), is herein disclosed. In the preferred embodiment, the integral tattoo is formed on a multi-layer paper backing that is attached to the cardboard/paperboard box by a special pressure sensitive adhesive. The tattoo also includes a water soluble slip layer, a waterproof film coating, and an offset printed design such as a children's cartoon character, all carried on the backing.

Abstract: This invention consists of a folding leaflet attached out of the cigarette packs and product packets in general, set to contain information of any kind, advertisements, promotion of new products, prize stamps, etc. Said leaflet is folded out of the packet in such a way that it shows on its external faces the same contents of the packet's external faces, therefore it results imperceptible at a glance.

Abstract: A promotional article for insertion into a carton containing beverage bottles. The article comprises a premium attached to a tray-like member which is provided with means to engage and be borne by one, but preferably more, of the primary containers. The article is adapted to be contained within the carton without distorting any wall thereof. The invention also provides a promotional package comprising the article and beverage-filled bottles in a carton and a method of producing same.

Abstract: A flexible container with a wall structure comprised of multi-layer, flexible thin films, including a first film layer that is affixed to the wall structure by a releasable adherence and that incorporates a removable promotional piece. The removable promotional piece is incorporated into the first film layer such that, other than a continuous cut facilitating removal and any conspicuous printing on the removable portion, it is indistinguishable from the rest of the exterior of the package. The continuous cut allows for full detachment of the removable portion from the first film layer so that only the releasable adherence prevents it from separating from the container. The promotional piece is removed by peeling it away from the container, where the peeling is facilitated by the action of the continuous cut and releasable adherence. The removable piece may function as a gaming piece or redeemable coupon, or may be designed to retain a tacky surface and function as a sticker.

Abstract: A package assembly including a housing that has an attachable portion and a manually removable portion. Also included is a length of attachment strip material having opposite major surfaces defined by stretch release adhesive extending between its opposite ends. The length of attachment strip material has a first part adhered along the outer surface of the attachable portion of the housing, and a second part extending from one end of the first part; and that second part of the length of attachment strip material is disposed to restrict adhesion between it and a planar surface to which the first part of the length of attachment strip material is adhered to support the housing along that surface.

Abstract: A system for providing a shipping label and a packing list on a container is provided which enables rapid and automated sequential application of a packing list and a shipping label to the container. The shipping label is configured complemental to the packing list whereby the packing list may first be adhered directly to the container and then the shipping label may be placed thereover. The shipping label may be applied over the packing list while the container moves continuously down a conveyor. The invention further includes an apparatus for sequentially applying the packing list and then the shipping label, and a method for applying the packing list and shipping label in registry.

Abstract: A (cigarette) pack, in particular a hinge-lid box (10), with an outer wrapper (24) made of thin, transparent film includes a printing carrier (30) which is arranged, between the hinge-lid box (10) and outer wrapper (24), with (zigzag) folding. The printing carrier (30) is positioned in the region of an end wall (22) such that automatic unfolding takes place when the outer wrapper (24) is opened.

Abstract: A paperboard box has removable identifying indicia. In a first embodiment, the top of the box has a central opening that may be rectangular in shape. Each corner of the opening has a removable tab and each of the tabs carries a different message. For example, the messages can relate to different kinds of pies such as, for example, “apple”, “cherry”, and “blueberry”. One of the tabs may be provided with a line to provide a location where an identifier may be handwritten using any suitable writing instrument. As an alternative example, the writing on each tab may relate to an occasion such as “Happy Birthday”, “Happy Anniversary”, “Congratulations” or “Bon Voyage”. A product is placed into the box and the cover is closed thereover. All of the tabs are removed with the exception of the remaining tab that accurately describes either the contents of the box or the occasion being celebrated or observed or other message.

Abstract: A blow-molded hollow plastic container having a continuous liquid layer of conventional silk screen ink applied thereto over an external container surface area, and also having a self-adhering pre-printed label applied over the silk screen coated area. The protective ink barrier coating prevents formulation of bubbles beneath the label. The container may also have labeling silk screen imprinted on the container surface in a designated label-receiving area, and/or on non-designated surface area concurrently with barrier coating of the designated area. The container may have gas-blocking clear ink barrier layer silk screened over the silk screen imprinting, and then the a label applied over the gas-blocking layer of clear ink when dry. The label may be “peelable” for customer rebate return without thereby altering the labeling information remaining on the container.
