  • Patent number: 5265717
Abstract: A cigarette case having an arrangement for automatically lighting and ejecting a cigarette therefrom. The case includes an outer casing which receives the cigarettes therein. The cigarettes are loaded within a conveyor carousel which preferably has sufficient space to load an entire pack of cigarettes. An ejector lid is pivoted to the outer casing and provides an ejection opening for the lit cigarette when in the open position. Movement of the lid from the closed to the open position causes the conveyor carousel to advance one increment and places a cigarette on a lift device, which is raised to extend a portion of the cigarette out of the case such that it may be grasped by the user. During this lifting a lighter is activated to light the cigarette.

  • Patent number: 5035608
Abstract: A device to render articles such as disposable lighters resistant to unauthorized use including a body which slidably receives the lighter. In the normal protected position, the lighter is within the housing and is restricted from extension from the body to a use-position by a locking pin carried on a rocker arm. The rocker arm controls the position of the locking pin and may not be released unless the lighter is inverted releasing a tumbler freeing the rocker arm and thus permitting depression of the rocker arm to disengage the locking pin from the lighter. In the disengaged position, the user may slide the lighter relative to the sleeve to a use-position in which the lighter may be actuated. The safety device may be applied to other articles to make them child-resistant such as medicine containers.

Abstract: A case preferably for a lighter (3), especially of the disposable type, is tubular and at its lower end it comprises a recess (4a, 4b, 5a, 5b), which partly is provided with a gripping part (8) projecting radially inwards and gripping under the free rim (11) of a cap (10) so as to loosen said cap from a bottleneck (12), and partly comprises a counter-holding part (5a, 5b) opposing the gripping part (8) and abutting and pressing on the top side of a cap (10). The case is made of a single sheet member (1) of metal, especially steel. The case (1) is bent substantially symmetrically from the longitudinal central line of the sheet member (1) so as to form two opposing side walls (26, 27), of which the first side wall is continued, whereas the second side wall (27) formed by the outer portion of the sheet member (1) is broken. The rims of the outer portions maintain a narrow slot therebetween, whereby the lighter (3) is retained by the resilience of the metal.
