  • Patent number: 7514011
Abstract: A system for separating solids from a fluid stream. The system includes a first separator device mounted to a container. The container includes a settling compartment and baffle plate module, with the initial settling compartment receiving the fluid from the first separator device. The fluid stream proceeds through the baffle plate module. The solids within the fluid stream will descend to the bottom of the container. A spiral blade is positioned at the bottom of the container, with the spiral blade adapted to convey solids to a first pump member. The speed of rotation of the spiral blade may be varied. The first pump member discharges the slurry to a second separator device. The second separator device will discharge the separated fluid stream into the baffle plate module. In one embodiment, the first separator device is a linear shaker and the second separator device is a cyclone separator and linear shaker mounted in tandem.

  • Patent number: 6588597
Abstract: A treating system for selecting and recovering reusable materials from used composite plastics is constituted by a crushing process, a cleaning and grading process and a plastics separation process. The treating system for the composite plastics is constituted by combining the cleaning and grading process in which a mechanical impact force and a friction force are applied to the plastic crushed pieces so as to clean the plastics and form the gain size of the plastics, and the plastics separation process with using a hydrocyclone. Accordingly, a selecting accuracy of the selected and recovered plastics is significantly improved and the plastics are separated to high-purity plastics, whereby it is possible to utilize the recovered plastics as recycled materials.

  • Patent number: 6332542
Abstract: Dense, tramp material, is efficiently separated in a comminuted cellulosic fibrous material feed system, for example in a chemical cellulose digester feed system, in a simple but effective matter. By merely utilizing a generally vertical conduit and a slurry flow within it (which may be augmented by high speed liquid introduction), that is caused to turn in a radiused path, centrifugal force allows separation of the tramp material into a cavity beneath the radius transition without requiring any mechanical element to engage the slurry. Appropriate purges, baffles, and discharge mechanisms may be provided. Alternatively, a tramp material separator may be built into an otherwise conventional metering screw in a digester feed system, or one or more centrifugal separators can be provided downstream of the slurry pump in a chip slurry transport system or digester feed system.

  • Patent number: 6170667
Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for the continuous formation of slurry. The apparatus includes a hopper to receive particulate material; one or more transport/mixing assemblies that mix and transport the solid material and a carrier liquid; and a mixing/averaging tank that receives the solid/liquid mixture from the transport/mixing assembly and performs a final mixing and averaging of the mixture to achieve a desired slurry consistency. An auger inside the tank continuously mixes and shears the slurry. The tank has one or more outlet ports to continuously discharge the slurry. The auger may be bi-directional, to direct the slurry towards dual outlets on opposing ends of the tank. Preferably, a reciprocating screen deck is provided to eliminate oversized particulates before the mixture enters the mixing/averaging tank. Carrier liquid is introduced at several points in the process, including into the transport/mixing assemblies, at the screen deck, and into the mixing/averaging tank.

  • Patent number: 5909815
Abstract: The present invention is a sorter for products conveyed successively and continuously. The sorter components include a main screw rotated continuously by a drive shaft to arrange in order and convey products to be sorted. The main screw has helical grooves for engagement with the products and an annular groove portion for stopping therein each of the to-be-sorted products. The annular groove portion is positioned between helical grooves of the main screw. A rotatable sub-screw with helical grooves is located near the main screw at the annular groove portion for engagement with the products to be sorted. The sorter further includes a delivery means disposed at the annular groove to deliver the products from the main screw to the sub-screw and an interlocking mechanism rotating off the drive shaft which synchronizes the delivery means with the sub-screw. This sorter is a high speed, reliable system for sorting products undamaged.

  • Patent number: 5868256
Abstract: An apparatus for refining clay material having a horizontally oriented rotating drum into which clay material and water are fed. The clay material and water form a slurry which is agitated by lifters within the drum. A series of adjustable lifters within the drum refine the slurry by lifting aggregates and rocks out of the slurry and discharging them out of the refiner. The refined slurry exits the drum through an opening in the drum. The refined slurry is then taken away from the drum for further processing.

  • Patent number: 5409118
Abstract: A chamber has an aperture which opens downwardly to the atmosphere and an upwardly opening air return passage. A nozzle-forming duct is inclined upwardly at approximately sixty degrees to the horizontal, and a fan mounted therein directs moving air into the chamber. An upwardly inclined ramp is positioned within the duct, and communicates between the chamber and a downwardly opening hole in the floor of the duct. A metered supply of wood chips is fed down a sixty degree incline onto the ramp through the air stream which is moving through the duct. Lightweight chips become entrained in the air and are separated from the rocks, tramp metal and knots which slide down the inclined surface and exit through a hole in the duct. The entrained wood chips, together with the air from the fan, are directed into a curved baffle spaced within the chamber. By forcing the air and chips to move in a curved path, the curved baffle uses centrifugal force to separate the chips from the air stream.

  • Patent number: 5392928
Abstract: A system for inspecting and sorting molded containers, such as glass bottles that includes a finished product inspection station for inspecting containers transported in sequence along a predetermined path, identifying containers to be sorted from the path on the basis of container mold of origin, and providing an electrical signal indicative of such containers. A conveyor is disposed adjacent to the container path downstream of the finished product inspection station, and is responsive to an electronic control signal for selectively removing a container from the path as the container passes adjacent to the conveyor. A timer receives the electrical signal from the inspection station, and applies the electronic control signal to the conveyor after a time delay coordinated with distance between the inspection station and the conveyor, and velocity of travel of containers along the path between the inspection station and the conveyor.

  • Patent number: 4616786
Abstract: Surplus concrete or return concrete to be processed is poured into a high-capacity receiving bin and is transferred at a metered rate from said bin by means of a screw conveyor to a washing apparatus, in which fine components are separated from very fine components. The transfer at the metered rate is effected in dependence on the driving power of rotary motors of the rotary washing apparatus. When the driving power of the motors exceeds a predetermined value, then the motor of the screw conveyor is deenergized. When the driving power decreases below that value or below another value, the supply at the metered rate is resumed. The plant operates fully automatically and when the receiving bin has been emptied the plant is automatically cleaned and automatically shut down.
