  • Patent number: 8875927
Abstract: A container includes a lid adapted to seal with a base. The lid and base rims each have vertical segments that mate upon sealing the container. The mating segments form a vertical seal zone. The vertical seal zone has a width extending across the rim surfaces. One or more vent channels are disposed on either or both rims. Each vent channel extends partially into the vertical seal zone. When pressure inside the container reaches a critical level, the lid rises and reduces the width of the seal zone, creating a vent point. Pressurized vapors traveling through the vent channel overcome rim-engaging forces at the vent point and pass through the engaged rims. Once pressure is purged, the lid descends and resumes its sealed arrangement with the base. The rims may respectively include horizontally oriented segments that engage each other to from a horizontal seal zone.

As will be discussed below, his configuration has some surprising cooling advantageous standard packaging configurations.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a container comprising a circular end wall, a peripheral body wall, and an annular rolled end seam. A channel is created in the rolled end seam and is in communication with the interior of the container. A one-way valve forms a seal between the rolled end seam and an outer surface of the body wall. The one-way valve allows gases from the interior of the container to escape from the container during packaging.

  • Publication number: 20110068105

  • Patent number: 7886928
Abstract: A container for a product which off-gases has a container body with a base wall, sidewall and a large mouth at its upper end bounded by a lip and having an outwardly extending shoulder adjacent the upper end of the sidewall, and a foil seal which extends over the mouth and is adhered to the lip. The foil seal having a valve therein permitting gases in the container body to exit there through. A cap having a top wall and a depending skirt with an internal peripheral snap bead abuts the shoulder on the sidewall of the container body. The top wall of the cap has a depending flexible ring seal bearing on the lip and the inside surface of the cap has channels extending downwardly along the inside surface of the skirt. Gas pressure in the container body will cause the valve in the foil seal to release gas from the interior of the container body into the space in the cap and the pressure of the gas in the ring seal is deflected from the lip to allow the gas to flow thereby and outwardly in the channels in the cap.

  • Patent number: 7861874
Abstract: A resealable can end is provided including a neck (10) and a cooperating cap member (12) which can be sealed onto and removed from the neck, and is capable of containing product under pressure or vacuum if desired. This end may be added, by convention seaming methods, such as roll seaming or by appropriate adhesive, to a container body, or may be formed integrally with container bodies. The venting feature of the end will achieve a controlled release of differential internal-to-ambient pressure upon initial opening of the cap, and may also provide resealed containment of partial contents retained in the container, although the contents will no longer be under pressure or vacuum, as the case may be. The end may be applied to, or incorporated in, containers made of various material, such as aluminum, coated steel, or selected plastics.
