Patent number: 9022251Abstract: A foldable air insulating sleeve for insulating beverage and food containers is herein provided. More particularly, the foldable air insulating sleeve secures a cup in a manner that leaves a pocket of air surrounding the cup. This provides for improved temperature regulation and sufficient thermal insulation to assist the user in firmly grasping and handling the cup despite excess heat or condensation caused by the temperature of the cup's contents. Because the bases of most disposable cups are narrower than their respective rims, more air and thus greater insulation is found towards the bottom of cups secured by foldable air insulating sleeves. The wider base also gives such cups more stability. Support rings may be placed medially in on the inside of the sleeve to strengthen the sleeve and prevent it from collapsing when held by a user. The sleeve may also be short so as to insulate a medial portion of a cup.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 2009Date of Patent: May 5, 2015Inventor: Laurent Hechmati

Patent number: 8960528Abstract: A thermally insulated cup is formed from a single-walled paper or plastic inner cup and an insulating outer wrapper. The insulating outer wrapper comprises a paper base sheet or outer sidewall blank, optionally printed on one side, and a corrugated paper or foamed plastic insulating insert. The insulating insert is similar in shape to the outer sidewall blank but smaller in size. The insert is glued in a centered position to the non-printed side of the sidewall blank to form a two-layered insulating wrapper. Less than 20% of the area of the insert is glued to the base sheet. Specifically, no glue is applied to the area adjacent to the cut side edges of the insert, and as such these edges are not attached to the base sheet. The wrapper is then wrapped around the single walled inner cup. The side edges of the base sheet of the wrapper overlap and are sealed directly together to form a side seam. The side seam is itself adhesively secured to the side wall of the inner cup.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 2005Date of Patent: February 24, 2015Assignee: Dixie Consumer Products LLCInventor: Claus E. Publication number: 20120199641Abstract: A heat-insulating paper cup allows the glued external wall of the heat-insulating tube to be formed with a smooth surface, and the raised lines on the inner wall of the heat-insulating tube are mated closely with the conical cylindrical wall of the cup body. This can facilitate advertisement printing and fabrication on the surface of heat-insulating paper cup. Moreover, the raised lines on the inner wall of the heat-insulating tube can support the ribs, thus enhancing the structural strength and robustness of the heat-insulating tube and avoiding squashing during manual holding.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 16, 2012Publication date: August 9, 2012Inventor: Albert HSIEH
