Patent number: 8875983Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide boxes that are particularly useful in connection with trash collection and trash compaction. The boxes are designed as having a single-piece board construction with a strength that can contain mixed types of trash, including solids and liquids, and to effectively contain the trash during the pressure of a compaction process without tearing, splitting and/or leaking. They are also designed to use a waterproof coating for adhering seams, reducing the extra step and expense of using a glue or an adhesive to secure the box seams. The trash compaction boxes provided herein are particularly useful on aircraft and other passenger transport vehicles, where weight and performance are of primary concern.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2012Date of Patent: November 4, 2014Assignees: MAG Aerospace Industries, LLC, Dura-Fibre, LLCInventors: Gil Lenhard, Brian Adams, Jason Gscheidmeier, Scott Gehl

Patent number: 5065939Abstract: A container for receiving and containing items to be disposed of, such as medical waste (used syringes, needles, and the like), is assembled from a blank, and comprises bottom, front, rear, top and end panels. The top panel has a front flap provided with opposing flap tucks which, when the container is assembled, are inserted into spaces between respective end panels and respective minor flaps of the front panel, thereby securing the top panel against inadvertent opening. The top panel also has a syringe-shaped opening which serves as an access to an inner flap of the front panel below so that, when an item to be disposed of is deposited through the opening onto the inner flap, and when a force is exerted on the inner flap from above, the inner flap rotates downward, and the item is deposited in the container. The inner flap is biased to a closed position so that, upon removal of the force, the inner flap rotates back to the closed position.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1990Date of Patent: November 19, 1991Assignee: Chesapeake Packaging CompanyInventors: Bobby L. Patent number: 5039004Abstract: A discarded medical material container comprises a body of sheet material having laminated layers of compact fibrous material and material that is effectively impervious to the passage of fluid. The sheet material is formed into foldable panels that are joined together to define a bottom, sidewalls and a top of the body. The top has a closeable opening for the insertion of discarded material into the container and a closure tab. The top is formed of a first, interior panel of the sheet material having a region that is sectioned to define a plurality of flaps extending inwardly from the contour of the region, so as to define an opening in the first panel of sheet material, and a second, outer panel of sheet material, disposed atop the first panel. The second panel has a cut to define an aperture in the shape of a generally flexible tab overlying the region in the first panel and sized to close the aperture. A slit-score causes each flap to assume a generally downwardly bent condition.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 1989Date of Patent: August 13, 1991Assignee: Hemox CorporationInventor: James L. Simpson
