Patent number: 8910858Abstract: The invention provides a device for recording information relating to, and/or calculating a required medication dosage on the basis of, a plurality of variable factors influencing a medication requirement, in particular for the management of diabetes. The device comprises a substantially cylindrical body and at least one annular dial mounted to the body and selectively rotatable about the circumference thereof.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2011Date of Patent: December 16, 2014Assignee: Sweetlevels LimitedInventor: Peter McDonald

Patent number: 8087576Abstract: A data storage device comprises a memory in which a collection of prostate cancer screening data is stored. The screening data is obtained from a selection of the general male population without medical pre-selection. A device for indicating a risk for a disease of an individual, comprises an indicator for indicating a determined value for said risk. The indicator comprises a risk scale representing a range of values of said risk, and at least one dialler for entering a value of a diagnostic parameter of an individual. The dialler comprises a parameter scale representing a range of values of said diagnostic parameter. The dialler is movable with respect to said indicator such that when a parameter value on said parameter scale is selected, an associated risk value is indicated on said risk scale according to a predetermined mathematical relationship.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 2006Date of Patent: January 3, 2012Assignee: Stichting Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek Prostaatkanker (SWOP)Inventors: Ewout Steyerberg, Monica Joanne Roobol-Bouts, Marinus Kranse, Fritz Heinrich Schröder

Patent number: 8083127Abstract: A counter mechanism useable with a dry powder inhaler is disclosed. The mechanism features first and second indicator members rotatable about a central axis. The indicator members have counting indicia visible to indicate inhaler doses remaining or dispensed. A coupling transmits rotary motion from the inhaler to the second indicator member when the inhaler is charged with a dose. A slave wheel, rotatable about an axis offset from the central axis, has a drive transfer wheel on one face and a gear on an opposite face. The gear engages the second indicator member, the drive transfer wheel intermittently engages and rotates the first indicator member in response to rotary motion of the second indicator member.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 2010Date of Patent: December 27, 2011Assignee: Aventis Pharma LimitedInventors: Stephen J. Minshull, Duncan G. Young, Andrew J. Ledgeway, Simon P. Wells, Graham K. Lacy, Julian F. R. Swan

Patent number: 7827989Abstract: A rotatably actuated counter is disclosed. The counter includes a ratchet driven unit wheel nested within a tens wheel. Each wheel has a radial face displaying counting indicia. The tens wheel is transparent, allowing the indicia on the unit wheel to be viewed adjacent to the indicia on the tens wheel to provide a total count. A slave wheel is positioned between the unit and tens wheels. A gear on one face of the slave wheel engages gear teeth on the tens wheel. A Geneva mechanism on the other face is engaged by a foot on the unit wheel once per rotation. The wheels are rotatably mounted within a housing having a sidewall with a window through which the count indicia may be viewed. The unit wheel rotates in ten increments and then rotates the tens wheel through one increment by engaging and rotating the slave wheel.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 2008Date of Patent: November 9, 2010Assignee: Aventis Pharma LimitedInventors: Noel Butterworth, Stephen John Minshull, Simon Paul Wells, Duncan Grant Young

Patent number: 6543682Abstract: This is a manual circular calculator for determining an appropriate insulin injection dosage to be taken with a meal. Preferably, the calculator has a pair of circular members which rotate around a single common center to allow calculation of the dosage. The front member includes a viewing panel showing an array of insulin injection dosage values that are printed on the rear circular member. The front member includes a series of measured blood glucose levels along a radius adjacent the viewing panel. The rear member typically has visible ingested carbohydrate values positioned along the outer perimeter of the member and, as noted above, a number of insulin injection dosage value arrays which become visible as one member is turned relative to the other. It is common that a physician would have a kit of these inventive devices, so that the appropriate one could be chosen depending on the insulin sensitivity, age, and size of the patient.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 2000Date of Patent: April 8, 2003Inventor: Nichole Glaser

Patent number: 6000725Abstract: A lottery ticket includes an upper edge, a lower edge, opposite side edges, and a first area located adjacent the upper edge, the first area having a first set of gaming indicia disposed thereon that form lower portions of prize symbols. A second area is located adjacent the lower edge, the second area having a second set of gaming indicia disposed thereon that form upper portions of prize symbols. The arrangement is such that upon folding the ticket about a horizontal axis and aligning the second set of gaming indicia above the first set of gaming indicia, the winning status of the lottery ticket is determined if the upper portions of prize symbols register with the lower portions of prize symbols to create at least one complete prize symbol. Other lottery ticket constructions are further contemplated. A method of playing a lottery game is further disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1998Date of Patent: December 14, 1999Assignee: GTECH Rhode Island CorporationInventors: Roy S.
