  • Publication number: 20120248215
Abstract: An improved railroad tie comprises a monolithic elongate tie body divided into a pair of end sections and a narrow mid section interconnecting the pair of end sections. Further, the top surface of each end section divided into a proximal and distal surface sections interconnected by a rail seat section whereon a rail is fixedly mounted. The proximal and distal surface sections slope downwards, in opposing directions, as they extend longitudinally from the rail seat section and connect the top surface of the mid section and the extreme lateral edge of the top surface of the end section respectively. The mid section is of uniform trapezoidal cross-section. The railroad tie further comprises a plurality of steel rebars cast within the tie body.

  • Patent number: 8025241
Abstract: In the case of a hollow sleeper (1) for adjusting devices of switch blades of railway points, movable common crossings or cable crossings in any desired sections of track and points, formed as an upwardly open hollow sleeper profile with a planar sleeper underside (2), for fitting in a track skeleton, wherein the cross-sectional width and height are made to match a normal concrete, wooden or steel sleeper, the positional stability on ballast can be improved if the sleeper underside (2) of the hollow sleeper (1) is formed with at least one sunken, downwardly open chamber (5).

  • Publication number: 20110155819
Abstract: The present invention comprises a railroad tie disposed below the rails to support the rails and comprising a protrusion on a sloped surface of the railroad tie; and a reinforcing plate comprising a groove on a sloped surface of the reinforcing plate, which corresponds to the sloped surface of the railroad tie, wherein the reinforcing plate is coupled with the railroad ties by inserting the protrusion into the groove and opposing the sloped surface of the reinforcing plate to the sloped surface of the railroad tie.

  • Patent number: 6230981
Abstract: A steel railroad sleeper of inverted channel section whose open ends can selectively be closed by end plates detachably connected one to open end of the sleeper and whose sides incline downwardly and outwardly from the upper rail supporting surface of the sleeper, the sleeper being produced by cold forming strip steel. The sleeper may be produced by cold pressing or cold rolling and the end plates may also be produced by cold forming steel strip. In one embodiment the sleeper has a waisted section of reduced width. This waisted section may be positioned generally midway along the length of the sleeper. The central section of the sleeper interior may be filled with a material to prevent the ingress of ballast to this central region.

  • Patent number: 5055350
Abstract: A railroad cross-tie made from sand and recycled thermoplastic containers. To practice the invention the containers made of many thermoplastic materials are granulated and mixed together. The labels and small amounts of residue from the original contents remain on the containers. Sand is dried and coated with an adhesive substance. The coated sand and recycled granulated thermoplastic plastics are mixed and heated in a compression mold to form the railroad cross-tie.

  • Patent number: 4583685
Abstract: A rail anchoring clip and sleeper assembly comprising a sleeper and at least one rail anchoring clip arranged in use to longitudinally anchor a rail across the sleeper, the sleeper having means to locate the rail in a direction longitudinal of the sleeper and means to locate the clip in a direction lateral of the sleeper, the clip being constructed of resilient material and being shaped when resiliently deformed in use to define a first portion that bears tightly against the upper surface of one side of the rail foot, a second portion that bears tightly against the underside of the sleeper to compressibly anchor the rail onto the sleeper and a third portion in cooperative engagement with said means to locate said clip laterally of the sleeper, the positions of contact of the first, second and third portions with the rail and sleeper respectively being spaced apart in a direction longitudinal of the sleeper.

  • Patent number: 4083491
Abstract: A railroad crosstie is constructed from at least two individually distinct rail support blocks interconnected by a web system which is fastened to the blocks and which comprises at least one self-supporting rigid sheet member adapted to be buried in the roadway ballast when the tie is in place. The blocks are selected to support and secure rails in conventional manner, and the interconnecting web system holds the blocks in relative position in the roadbed. The rigid sheet member adapted to be buried in the roadway ballast is advantageously disposed or provided with means such as horizontal longitudinal corrugations to interact mechanically with the particles of standard railroad ballast, whereby the tie resists being withdrawn from the roadbed.
