Abstract: Disclosed is a system for precisely controlling distribution of saline, which employs a 6-bit manifold employing 6 solenoid valves for controlling the flow of hydraulic fluid therethrough. The manifold is in hydraulic fluid communication with motor valves. A mathematical formula or a lookup table determines the amount of saline distributed. The system is devoid of feedback. The 6-bit manifold can be employed on a salt spreader vehicle for controlling an improved flighted auger assembly for distributing granular salt from the rear of a salt spreader vehicle. The auger assembly has 3-stages of increasing diameter flights. The largest flight is at a discharge end of the auger assembly. A choke surrounds the ultimate auger flight at the auger assembly discharge end. The space between the choke and the ultimate flight is between about ? and ΒΌ inch.

Abstract: A liquid manure applicator comprises a tank for holding a supply of liquid manure that is distributed onto a farm field through a distributor having a plurality of distribution ports and hoses. The hoses lead to individual distribution tools that include a pair or rotary coulters and a bellows for applying downforce to the coulters. The distributor includes a ring that restricts the size of the solids entering the distribution ports and hoses to something substantially equal to or less than 50% of the cross-sectional area of the hoses. This prevents the hoses from plugging even when small diameter hoses are used to lower the application rates to values more consistent with the needs of a zone tilled field. A rotary chopper in the distributor reduces the size of larger solids until they have been broken up into pieces small enough to pass the restriction provided by the ring.

Abstract: An apparatus is used for distributing a slurry flow to plural feed conduits. It has particular application in the injection of swine manure into the soil as fertilizer. The impeller blades produce pressurized zones in front of them as they sweep in sequence past the outlet ports. This produces a pulsating flow in the feed conduits, ameliorating blockage problems with the conduits. The impeller also includes knives that rotate around the inside of the outer wall and anvils mounted on the outer wall so the knives will act with the anvils to sever trash in the slurry flow. Abstract: An agricultural vehicle is convertible to a first mode for broadcasting liquid agricultural material and to a second mode for broadcasting dry agricultural material. The vehicle includes a single main tank which is used in the first mode to transport liquid and in the second mode to transport dry material. The tank converges to an apex at the base and an auger is positioned within the tank extending upwardly from the apex to emerge from the tank at the top of the front wall. When filled with liquid, the auger is plugged at its discharge end allowing the auger tube to be filled with the liquid. When working in the second mode, the plug is opened and the auger extracts the dry material from the main tank and deposits it onto a pair of conveyor chains each forming a curtain of material which divides into separate receptacles for transportation to separate material supply tubes of a pair of booms extending outward to each side of the vehicle.

Abstract: A distribution system for agricultural chemicals includes a primary auger conveyor that delivers particulates from a common hopper structure. The hopper is provided with primary and secondary particulate compartments. Primary particulate compartment discharges into a first auger conveyor. When a mixture of two particulate components is desired, the second component can be discharged from the secondary hopper compartment by operation of a second conveyor leading to the first. Liquid stored on-board the supporting vehicle can also be discharged into the main auger conveyor to wet the particulates prior to their delivery.

  • Patent number: 5085372
Abstract: A manure spreader that includes a generally V-shaped hollow body having a longitudinally positioned auger conveyor rotatively carried near its bottom which can be raised or lowered to break up manure that may bridge over the auger conveyor. The auger conveyor has a set of individual blades arranged in a helix to force the manure toward an outlet gate which is positioned at one end of the body. A rotary impeller comprised of a set of free swinging manure blades is carried outwardly of the body in a position to receive and propel the manure from the outlet gate while a suitable drive mechanism is provided to rotate the impeller at sufficient speed so the free swinging blades extend radially outward to spread the manure over the a wide area. Also disclosed is a chain drive for the auger and for the impeller which permits raising and lowering of the auger and enables the auger and expeller to rotate in opposite directions in achieving an overhand discharge motion for the expeller.

Abstract: A sparger system for removing sodium chlorate crystal and other particulate material in slurry or solution form from a tank car comprises a plurality of spray nozzles from which water is expelled as a flat spray initially to dissolve sodium chlorate so as to cavitate the mass of sodium chlorate chlorate crystals, which break off in lumps into the cavity and then to impact the walls and roof of the tank car to flush off residual sodium chlorate crystal. The slurry is collected in a sump and is discharged therefrom, with additional sprays agitating the sump to break up clumps of sodium chlorate and to maintain the particulates in suspension.

Abstract: A sliding gate type outlet port for a semi-liquid manure spreader is presented. The spreader with which the gate is used has an open topped tank of triangular cross section supported on a tractor drawn trailer. The power takeoff from the tractor is coupled to a shaft extending internally the length of the tank near the bottom. At the rear wall of the tank the shaft is coupled to a centrifugal pump which communicates with the tank and flings manure received therefrom in an arc away from a discharge opening in the pump housing. A hydraulically actuated flow regulating gate slides fore and aft across the pump exit port. The horizontal movement of the gate in a support structure allows an opening of constant height to be maintained while varying the area of the discharge opening, thus providing constant spread width under various settings of deposition density.
