  • Patent number: 5814753
Abstract: The present invention pertains to a device with nonlethal interference active bodies for combating aircraft, which violate or do not heed flight bans, etc., and can be forced to land due to vibrations and interferences in the air current on the aerodynamic surfaces. A series of embodiments are described and depicted in the figures of the drawing.

  • Patent number: 5583311
Abstract: An intercept device for flying objects is formed of a lightweight, small-volume, packable structure made of a tear-resistant, pliable material, which can be stretched to a large, two-dimensional or three-dimensional expansion by means of a deployment device. To reduce the velocity of the intercepted flying objects, activatable, aerodynamic resistance bodies are incorporated into the structure. To end the intercept procedure, elements are integrated into the structure, which consist of material that can be destroyed from outside by means of high-energy beams and/or chemical reagents, or that destroys itself, or the structure as a whole consists of such material.

  • Patent number: 5560568
Abstract: Apparatus and method for recovering and arresting an aircraft on a floating platform is disclosed. The aircraft has a fuselage, a wing, and a source of propulsion for propelling the aircraft in flight. During landing approach, an inflatable cushion attached to the fuselage is deployed below the fuselage via inflation. In the inflated condition, a fastening material disposed on a downward facing surface of the cushion is thereby adapted to adhesively contact the floating platform deck so that the forward motion of the aircraft is slowed and arrested. In the preferred embodiment, the fastening material is one of male or female VELCRO.RTM. which is adapted to mate with corresponding VELCRO.RTM. material covering the platform deck.

  • Patent number: 5054717
Abstract: An aircraft capture system, e.g. for a radio-controlled pilotless aircraft (19), having at the homing station a boom arrangement (13) mounted for rotation about a vertical hinge axis (A--A) and having appreciable flexibility under forces acting perpendicular to the hinge axis while being substantially inflexible under forces acting parallel to the hinge axis. The flexibility of the boom arrangement cushions the aircraft against shock when an arrester hook (33) deployed from the aircraft engages the boom arrangement via an arrester wire (15) attached to the boom arrangement.

  • Patent number: 5042750
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling the rate of deceleration of a moving body. The apparatus has a cable or net for engaging a moving body and tape connected to the cable or net. The tape is wound onto a reel at the start of a deceleration and is unwindable from the reel during the deceleration so that unwinding the tape from the reel causes a corresponding rotation of the reel. A pump is operatively connected to the reel so that rotation of the reel causes pumping of a hydraulic fluid at a rate which increases as the rate of rotation of the reel increases. A control valve disposed across the discharge of the pump varies pressure drop across the control valve. A brake is provided for applying a braking force to the reel, and an actuator is provided for varying the braking force applied by the braking means in response to the pressure drop.

  • Patent number: 5039034
Abstract: An RPV, comprising means for engaging a snag line carried as part of a securing system which "snags" means (for example hook) on an RPV and assists the RPV to a safe landing, the snag line extending from a winch unit proximate the proposed landing area of the RPV to a position on the ship to which it is removeably secured and the end thereof carrying means to be secured to means on the RPV.

  • Patent number: 4819915
Abstract: A flexible barrier is provided for arresting falling rocks comprising posts and a rock collecting and arresting net. Each post pivots upon a ground-anchored base plate and is stayed by windbracing cables secured to the top of the post. Two of the cables extend in an upstream direction from the post and one cable extends in a downstream direction from the post. The net is placed on and secured to a series of spaced, longitudinal, horizontal ropes which are supported by the upstream windbracing cables. The horizontal ropes are connected to the cables in a manner which permits the ropes to slide freely, with the ends of the ropes being secured to ground anchoring means beyond the ends of the barrier.

  • Patent number: 4730810
Abstract: The protective barrier comprises a sheet of netting substantially following the ground transverse to the slope and held spread out upright by posts. The posts are held by upstream and downstream stays on a guide in the direction of the slope, the guide being formed by a loop of cable stretched between two pulleys anchored in the ground and having a bearing strand to which the stays and the post are attached. A mooring cable upstream of the netting retains the attachment place of the upstream stay on the bearing strand. The cable is equipped with shock-absorbing means adapted to allow a length of reserve cable to run when subjected to strong tension. The impact of blocks of stones causes the posts to fall back on either side of the place of impact, the motion being slowed down by the shock-absorbing means. The sheet of netting remains stretched and the posts do not bend.
