Train Approach Warning For Work Cars Patents (Class 246/167A)
  • Patent number: 6145792
Abstract: A warning system and method for warning a train operator that the train is approaching personnel at a railroad station includes a transmitter disposed at the railroad station for transmitting a radio frequency (RF) warning signal with a given power output. A receiver is disposed on the train for receiving the RF warning signal. The receiver generates an alarm to notify the train operator of the presence of the personnel at the railroad station upon receiving the RF warning signal. A transmitter is disposed on the train for transmitting an RF confirmation signal upon receipt of the RF warning signal by the receiver disposed on the train. A receiver disposed at the railroad station receives the RF confirmation signal. The receiver disposed at the railroad station generates an alarm to notify the personnel that the train operator is aware of the presence of the personnel at the railroad station upon receiving the RF confirmation signal.

  • Patent number: 6113037
Abstract: A railroad maintenance-of-way personnel warning system and method therefor provides advanced detection and warning of oncoming trains encroaching the construction area. Magnetometer sensors detect an oncoming train whereby a waning signal is transmitted to a receiver unit at the construction zone. Warning alarms including a flashing light and siren horn are thereby activated to indicate the imminent danger such whereupon the construction personnel may take precautionary and evasive action in sufficient time to avoid mishap.

  • Patent number: 5954299
Abstract: A railroad crossing traffic warning system for alerting a motorist approaching a railroad crossing to the presence of an oncoming train. The system comprises a series of magnetometer sensor probes buried in the right-of way adjacent to a railroad track at predetermined distances from the railroad crossing. These sensors provide a signal to a controller unit when the presence of a train is sensed. The controller unit first determines the speed at which the oncoming train is traveling and the time it will take for the train to reach the crossing and then activates an improved warning apparatus at a predetermined amount of time before the train reaches the crossing.

  • Patent number: 5735491
Abstract: An apparatus for detecting the presence of an approaching train, includes a warning indicator, a receiver for receiving a brake system status signal transmitted from an approaching train, and a relay for coupling a voltage potential to the warning indicator when the brake system status signal is received by the receiver, wherein the warning indicator, the receiver and the relay are positioned within a passenger vehicle. Also there is a method for detecting the presence of an approaching train by detecting a brake system status signal originating from the train.

  • Patent number: 5727758
Abstract: A system and method for warning personnel in proximity to railroad tracks of an approaching train is disclosed. A transmitter disposed on a train transmits a warning signal. The personnel are each provided with a portable Radio Frequency (RF) receiver (pager) for receiving the warning signal transmitted by the transmitter. Upon receiving the warning signal, the portable RF receivers generate alarms to notify the personnel of the impending arrival of the train.

  • Patent number: 5012749
Abstract: A material handling system, such as a monorail material handling system, and a delivery device therefor which is intelligent, self-powered and capable of communicating with a central system control via a radio frequency communication link without direct electrical connection therewith. The material handling system comprises at least one delivery device, a pathway along which the delivery device is adapted to be propelled, and a central electronic control for controlling operation of the system. Each delivery device includes a drive for propelling the delivery device along the pathway, an onboard power supply for providing power to the drive, and an onboard electronic control for controlling operation of the delivery device. The onboard electronic control and the central electronic control include radio frequency communications for providing a radio communication link therebetween.
