Abstract: An isolation coupler for coupling a functional element to a support structure includes a first bracket. The first bracket includes a number of first-bracket sides. The number of first-bracket sides forms a closed polygonal shape, in plan view. The isolation coupler further includes a number of isolators coupled to each one of the first-bracket sides. The isolation coupler also includes a second bracket. The second bracket includes a number of second-bracket sides. The second bracket sides are coupled to the isolators. The number of second-bracket sides is equal to the number of first-bracket sides and forms the closed polygonal shape, in plan view. The isolators separate each one of the first-bracket sides from a corresponding one of the second-bracket sides to attenuate a load transferred from the first bracket to the second bracket.

  • Patent number: 10253836
Abstract: The present invention is directed to three dimensional weaves composed of wires or yarns that offer the potential for damping not achievable with solid materials, including high temperature damping. Three damping mechanisms have been identified: (1) Internal material damping, (2) Frictional energy dissipation (Coulomb damping), and (3) inertial damping (tuned mass damping). These three damping mechanisms can be optimized by modifying the wire material chemistries (metals, ceramics, polymers, etc.), wire sizes, wire shapes, wire coatings, wire bonding, and wire architecture (by removing certain wires). These have the effect of modifying the lattice and wire stiffnesses, masses, coefficients of friction, and internal material damping. Different materials can be used at different locations in the woven lattice. These design variables can also be modified to tailor mechanical stiffness and strength of the lattice, in addition to damping.

  • Patent number: 9440524
Abstract: A mount apparatus (20) for supporting a vibration source on a base is provided. The mount apparatus (20) includes a moving member (134) that is partially disposed in a pumping chamber (64) for moving within the pumping chamber (64) along a first axis (A) to create a volume change in the pumping chamber (64) to maintain the volume of the pumping chamber (64) to prevent a pressure increase in the pumping chamber (64) during the deformation of a flexible body (46) in response to an external excitation to effectively cancel the external excitation. The moving member (134) includes a moveable wall (144) of a flexible material, having a generally hour glass-shape in steady state, and extending between moving member upper and lower ends (140, 142). The moveable wall (144) flexes radially outwardly and inwardly relative to the first axis (A) in response to relative axial movement between the moving member upper and lower ends (140, 142), to amplify the volume change in the pumping chamber (64).

Abstract: A fluid-filled vibration damping device including a second orifice passage and a third orifice passage tuned to a lower frequency than the second orifice passage, and an actuator including an output portion facing openings of the second and third orifice passages on a side of an equilibrium chamber via a flexible film. The flexible film obstructs the openings of the second and third orifice passages when the output portion comes into contact against a partition member so that the third orifice passage is blocked while the second orifice passage is substantially placed in communication owing to a center recess of the output portion permitting deformation of the flexible film. Meanwhile, the flexible film is separated from the openings of the second and third orifice passages when the output portion is separated from the partition member so that the two orifice passages are placed in communication.

Abstract: [Problem] To prevent, using a simple seismic isolation structure, vibration, noise, and toppling of a heavy object installed on a floor surface where anchor bolts cannot be used. [Solution] In a seismic isolation structure 11 for a machine 1, plastically deformable support bodies 16 are embedded in a gel-like elastic body 15 of a vibration-damping pad 12. A bottom-surface adhesive layer of the gel-like elastic body 15 is bonded to the floor surface, and a pressurizing plate 13 is bonded to a top-surface adhesive layer of the gel-like elastic body 15. The pressurizing plate 13 bears weight of the machine 1 and uniformly applies pressure to the entire vibration-damping pad 12. The base 21 of a holder 14 is welded to the upper surface of the pressurizing plate 13; a bolt 22 erected on the base 21 is caused to penetrate a through-hole 3 of a leg section 2; and the leg section 2 is restrained on the pressurizing plate 13 by the holder 14 from moving laterally.
