When a chamber is expanded by fluid supply into a pipe-shaped button, a valve stem is slightly moved upward by a rod and a shaft to open an outlet of an orifice. Fluid received in a space between a cap and a diaphragm and having a high pressure is discharged into an outlet-side space, whereby the diaphragm opens a guide conduit. When fluid is discharged from the pipe-shaped button, the diaphragm is moved toward the guide conduit, and the valve stem closes the outlet. The fluid in the inlet-side space has a high pressure, and the fluid in the space between the cap and diaphragm has a low pressure. The high pressure fluid flows toward the low pressure fluid through a pilot hole of the diaphragm. When fluid pressure balance is effected between the spaces, the diaphragm closes the guide conduit.

Back-up shut-off function is provided by a cap spring-loaded into a closed position whence it migrates should the ball become dislodged.

The foot actuated flow control valve includes a bypass conduit connected to the water supply line; an electric switch connected to control a flow of water through the bypass conduit and a foot pedal connected between the electric switch and the power source. The electric switch includes a first terminal connected to a negative terminal of the power supply and a second terminal. The foot pedal includes a first terminal connected to a positive terminal of the power supply, a second terminal connected to the second terminal of the electric switch and a contact element connected to the first terminal of the foot pedal. When a pressure is applied to the foot pedal the contact element is caused to contact the second terminal of the foot pedal connecting the electric switch to the power supply.

    Abstract: The actuating lever of this invention is intended for use with an air valve having a normally extending valve stem. The actuating lever has utility in many fields. One illustrated embodiment is described in association with an air valve in the waste removal system of a sewing machine, wherein it is desired that the air valve be activated before the sewing machine is activated by depression of a treadle. It is normally desired to initiate the flow of compressed air to create a suction for the removal of waste generated by operation of the sewing machine before the sewing machine is started. The configuration of the actuating lever provides a mechanical advantage that, in the illustrated embodiment, enables the valve stem of the air valve to be depressed with less pressure on the treadle than was required in the prior art, and with less pressure than is required to start the motor of the sewing machine.

    Abstract: A hydraulically operated control valve with a cam member that pivots toward one or the other side of the neutral position in response to an operating member. A pair of piston chambers, each having an oil chamber formed at the top by the piston and a damper chamber formed at the bottom by the piston, are formed in the casing lower portion. A pair of casing partition members separate the piston chambers and the spring chambers, and are adapted so the push rods extend through the center thereof.     Abstract: A water saving device, implemented as a pair of spring loaded, normally-open shutoff valves inserted into the hot and cold water supply lines of a faucet, which are connected via a cable mechanism to a foot actuator. Actuating the mechanism causes the shutoff valves to close, interrupting any flow of water in the supply lines. Releasing the mechanism allows flow to resume. The shutoff valves are installed in series upstream of the normal hand-operated faucet valves. The user starts the water flow and adjusts the temperature of the water in the normal manner using the hand-operated faucet valves. When the user wishes to temporarily stop the water flow he or she steps on the foot pedal, thereby causing the shutoff valves to close. When the pedal is released the shutoff valves open and the water flow resumes at the same flow rate and temperature previously set by the user.

The push rod is biased so that the plug blocks normally a distal bottom end of a tubular sleeve that is secured in the hollow seat. When downward pressure is applied on the push rod, the plug ceases to block the bottom end of the tubular sleeve to permit communication between outlet and inlet pipe connectors of the hollow seat. A retaining plate is biased by an extension spring so as to engage the push rod when the push rod moves downwardly, thereby maintaining communication between the outlet and inlet pipe connectors even when the downward pressure applied on the push rod is extinguished.
