  • Patent number: 11221346
Abstract: In an embodiment, an ice-prevention dam for a pitot tube includes a body and a head. The body includes a notch having a substantially planar back, and the head extends from the body and has a substantially planar side that is substantially parallel to the back of the notch. Such a dam can prevent ice accumulation in a pitot tube, and can facilitate proper positioning of the dam. For example, during manufacture of a pitot tube, an assembler inserts the dam into a hole in a side of a pitot-tube body having a front opening such that the head of the dam is located outside of the pitot-tube body and a body of the dam is located inside of the pitot-tube body. Next, the assembler positions the dam by causing the substantially planar side of the dam head to be substantially parallel with the front opening of the pitot-tube body.

  • Patent number: 8424843
Abstract: The invention relates to a shuttle valve for interrupting a flow path (F), comprising a valve housing (1) having a valve seat (4) surrounding an opening (3) for the flow path (F). A valve disc (5) is arranged on a rotatably mounted shaft (6). By means of a drive unit (7), the valve disc (5) can be swiveled along a defined displacement curve (K1; K2; K3) from an opened position and leaving the flow path (F) unobstructed over the cross-section of the first opening (3) by a rotational movement about the pivot axis (8) of the shaft (6) and can be moved by a linear movement parallel to the pivot axis (8) in the direction of the valve seat (4) into a closed position so that the flow path (F) is sealed gas-tight by a sealing contact between the valve disc (5) and the valve seat (4). According to the invention, the drive unit (7) has a first drive (9a) for carrying out the rotational movement about the pivot axis (8) and a second drive (10a) for carrying out the linear movement parallel to the pivot axis (8).

  • Patent number: 8424611
Abstract: A downhole valve has a closure device (e.g., one or more flappers) for closing off the valve. A no-go actuation mechanism protects the flappers from damage. When the flappers are closed, the mechanism prevents a tool from passing into the valve and causing damage to the flappers. Yet, the mechanism may open the valve's flappers when the tool string is forced into the valve. When the valve has successfully opened, then the mechanism moves out of the way of the toolstring so it can pass through the valve. For the mechanically operated valves, operators use a shifting profile in the valve only in the upward direction to return the valve to the closed position. For hydraulic actuated valves, hydraulic pressure may be used or exhausted, depending on the design, to allow the flappers to go closed. Once the flappers have closed, the no-go mechanism is once again realized.

In one example, an outflow valve for use in an aircraft includes a frame configured for coupling to an aircraft and a gate pivotally coupled to said frame. The frame includes a forward flange extending above the frame. The gate is pivotally moveable between a closed position to substantially block airflow between an interior of the aircraft and an exterior of the aircraft and an exhaust position to direct airflow from the interior toward the exterior of the aircraft. The forward edge of the gate is located adjacent the frame forward flange as the gate is pivoted between the closed position to the exhaust position.

Abstract: An air shutoff valve includes a passage for supplying air, a swing gate, a shaft attached to a reset handle, and a spring to urge the gate toward its closed position. A trigger assembly secures the shaft and gate in the open position and includes an actuator, a cam, and a rocker arm. A cam surface of the arm has a notch to receive a sear point of the cam. Movement of the handle against the spring causes the cam contact surface of the cam to follow the cam surface to cause the arm to rotate such that the sear point is received in the notch. Actuating the actuator causes the arm to pivot away from the cam such that the sear point is released from the notch, wherein the spring causes the shaft to move the gate to its closed position.
