Tilting Load Support Patents (Class 254/3R)
  • Patent number: 5657524
Abstract: A portable, manually operated shaft handling apparatus (10), supported by swiveling wheels (12), (13), and (14) having a carriage (60) capable of counterbalancing the weight of the shaft (18) using air springs (50), and (51). The carriage will receive the shaft from the hoist (16) of an unwinding machine, and will strip the core (19) of an expended roll from the shaft utilizing compressed air. The apparatus is able to transport the shaft and insert it into the core of a new web roll (17) without any manual handling of the shaft. The apparatus can be adjusted for use with a variety of shafts having different weights and lengths.

  • Patent number: 5651657
Abstract: A cargo handling device for use in an overland vehicle. The cargo handling device includes a base frame which is capable of being mounted on the floor of the overland vehicle. A pair of extension members is individually borne by the base members and moveable along a predetermined path of travel from a first, stowed position, to a second, deployed position. A vertical lift is connected to each of the individual extension members at a single pivot point on each respective extension member. The lift can move from a first position, where the it is disposed in a substantially horizontal position, to a second position, where the it is disposed in a substantially vertical position. The vertical lift includes one or more longitudinally positioned tracks and an actuator having a first portion which is mounted to the lift and a second portion. A cargo support assembly is slidably engaged with the one or more tracks and connected to the second portion of the actuator.

  • Patent number: 5538389
Abstract: A box tilter that comprises a movable chassis and a container-supporting frame directly hinged to the chassis. The actuating force for lifting and tilting the container is provided by a hydraulic cylinder connected in retractable pulling relation between the chassis and a radial arm rigidly attached to the container-supporting frame and projecting backward from the hinge point. This radial-arm configuration reduces the distance of the container from the operator of the device and results in improved access to the items in the container.

  • Patent number: 5114118
Abstract: A hand operated, vertical lift dolly upon which objects may be placed and vertically lifted or lowered using the mechanical motion of a load handle. A load table is controlled by the load handle, and can be locked in place once it has been raised to a transport configuration. The load table remains in a substantially horizontal orientation throughout the loading and lifting process. The dolly can be moved from one location to another for loading and unloading objects, this motion facilitated by a wheeled carriage. The vertical lift dolly can, by appropriate positioning of the handle and load table, be placed in a space saving storage configuration.

  • Patent number: 4673328
Abstract: A lift/tilt-bed trailer. Apparatus is described for either raising from or lowering to the ground a trailer bed in a single step while maintaining a substantially horizontal attitude relative thereto, or for tilting the trailer bed which is normally positioned parallel to the ground when the trailer is in its traveling mode for the purpose of loading or unloading the bed without substantial change in the orientation of the trailer "U"-frame in which the bed is located. Four pivotable tracks attached to the frame and corresponding roller wheels attached to the bed cooperate to achieve the desired motion. Since the trailer need not be detached from whatever device is used to move it about when it is to be loaded or unloaded, increased stability results with consequent reduction in risk to the operator.

  • Patent number: 4664586
Abstract: A handling system supports a closure member, e.g. a manway cover or tensioner ring, for maintaining it in position when opening or closing operations are performed thereon and for moving it conveniently into or out of engagement with a mating member without damage to supporting studs. Gimbaling means include first and second attachable connections each vertically supported to a pneumatic cylinder assembly whose internal pressure is set to generate an upward force equal to the weight supported. An operator may provide a force to overcome damping forces at each support point to move the closure member in all degrees of freedom, and the member appears essentially weightless to the operator. The vertically movable connections are supported for translational movement on a cart which is also movable. Reliable movement of a closure member with respect to a pressure vessel is provided without the need for alignment or calibration of a path defined by the closure member support means.

  • Patent number: 4652202
Abstract: A lift mechanism of a "fork-lift" type is capable of use on the input and output sides of machines for processing sheets of particle board, plywood and similar products. The mechanism itself has the sheets of product to be processed stacked on a pair of spaced-apart lifting arms which are hydraulically raised and lowered from one end, leaving the other end open to permit loading of stacks of product sheets or to permit removing stacks of product sheets from the arms by means of a conventional fork-lift truck. The lifting arms deflect under load in direct proportion to the amount of load on them, and a cam and cam-follower mechanism is provided to compensate for this deflection. Thus, the top sheet of the stack load always is presented at a horizontal orientation.

  • Patent number: 4461455
Abstract: A lifting and positioning apparatus particularly suited for use in the installation of wing-mounted airplane engines includes superposed upper and lower load-bearing support platforms that are connected to one another by means of a jack mechanism operable to raise and lower the upper platform while supported by the lower platform. The lower platform includes and is movably supportable on fluid cushion bearings. The upper platform supports a plurality of resilient elastomeric elevator bellows that are positioned and adapted to receive and support a heavy object, such as an aircraft engine, while cushioned against application of excessive lifting force. The bellows are independently inflatable and deflatable to effect raising and lowering of selected portions of the aircraft engine and thereby rotate the engine to desired angular orientations. Alternatively, the bellows may be actuated conjointly to effect uniform vertical raising or lowering of the aircraft engine.

  • Patent number: 4392687
Abstract: A trailer comprises a container supported between a pair of scissors lifts having first and second arms movable about a pivot by a ram. The arms support the container by a pair of rollers and a mounting lug. The mounting lug comprises a lug on the container for engagement with a pair of U-shaped slots, a tilt slot and a lift slot. The lug engages the lift slot when the trailer is to be lifted. For tilting the lug engages the tilt slot thereby causing the rollers to disengage the container to permit tilting.

  • Patent number: 4091942
Abstract: A power assisted hand truck is disclosed. The hand truck includes a generally vertically extending rack pivotably mounted on a pair of laterally disposed front wheels and having a load bearing member extending from the front side thereof. A frame is connected to the front wheels and extends rearwardly with respect to the rack. The length of the frame in the rearward direction is adjustable, and the frame includes rear wheels on the underside thereof spaced from the front wheels. A bottom actuator is fixed to the frame and mounted so as to control the length thereof. A top actuator extends from the frame to the rack. The bottom and top actuators are operated to project the lower end of the rack forwardly and tilt the rack backwardly to lift a load resting on the load bearing member for transportation with the hand truck. The actuators are operated in reverse to lower the load.

  • Patent number: 4015737
Abstract: An object loading and unloading apparatus of a type having a framework adapted to be connected to a truck bed. A track is connected to the framework and has a plurality of rollers located thereon. A frame having forklift members connected perpendicularly to the bottom thereof is movably mounted on the track so that in one position the forklift members can be driven under an object to be transported. A winch is connected to the framework and has a cable which connects to a pulley on top of the frame for selectively pivoting the frame and forklift members and for pulling such frame and thereby an object to be loaded onto the track and thereby onto a truckbed. The winch is further utilized for unloading by releasing the frame and allowing it to slide down the track by gravity and then to pivot, also by the force of gravity, into an unloading position.
