Abstract: A solid drug core insert can be manufactured by injecting a liquid mixture comprising a therapeutic agent and a matrix precursor into a sheath body. The injection can be conducted at subambient temperatures. The mixture is cured to form a solid drug-matrix core. The therapeutic agent can be a liquid at about room temperature that forms a dispersion of droplets in the matrix material. A surface of the solid drug core is exposed, for example by cutting the tube, and the exposed surface of the solid drug core releases therapeutic quantities of the therapeutic agent when implanted into the patient. In some embodiments, the insert body inhibits release of the therapeutic agent, for example with a material substantially impermeable to the therapeutic agent, such that the therapeutic quantities are released through the exposed surface, thereby avoiding release of the therapeutic agent to non-target tissues.

Abstract: A method of fabricating chip carriers suitable for use in packaging integrated circuits and other electronic, electro-mechanical and opto-electronic devices is described. In general, a number of wires (or wires and rods) are arranged in parallel in a wiring fixture. After the wires are positioned, they are encapsulated to form an encapsulated wiring block. The wiring block is then sliced to form a number of discrete panels. Preferably, the various wires are geometrically positioned such that each resulting panel has a large number of device areas defined therein. The encapsulant in each panel effectively forms a substrate and the wire segments in each panel form conductive vias that extend through the substrate.

Abstract: A plant for manufacturing a continuous latex foam layer (2) to form mattresses (6) provided with cells (5). The plant comprises a plurality of laying planes (7) provided with a plurality of separate tables (13) separately arranged side by side to form a surface for the foam deposit. Each table comprises protuberances (14) and the arrangement of the protuberances on a table can differ from that of the juxtaposed tables in order to create supporting areas for the different body parts of the user. Preferably the tables (13) with their protuberances (14) are slidably fitted onto the laying planes (7) and can be easily and quickly replaced with separately provided tables having protuberances (14) differently arranged in order to meet the support capacity values required by different users.

Abstract: A system for processing materials includes handling and cutting stations positioned at appropriate positions along first and second conveying portions. A crust cutting station is positioned along the first conveyor portion. A crust removal station is positioned to span across the first and second conveying portions. Similarly, a stacking station is also positioned to span across the first and second conveying portions. Further, a first (vertical) cross cutting station is position along the second conveyor portion. Similarly, a second (horizontal) cross cutting station is located along the second conveyor portion. The process of using the disclosed system eliminates the need for specially designed stacking frames or trays and support rods, and improves cutting capacity and reduces processing time by only stacking the materials to be processed once, without de-stacking and restacking steps.
