Abstract: A jig device holding a work piece is used with a milling machine that cuts from the work piece a prosthesis having a surface essentially free of defects. The jig device is inserted repeatedly into the machine in the same predetermined location, even upon inverting the jig device. This maintains the spatial relationship between the jig device and milling so, at start up, they are always in the same exact spatial relationship. The milling machine partially cuts through a first side of the work piece to form in the work piece a cavity having a surface part corresponding to at least a portion of the prosthesis being made. The jig device is then removed from the machine, inverted and reinserted into the machine at the same predetermined location. A support material is placed in the cavity prior to reinserting the jig device. Upon reinserting the jig device, the machine precisely cuts through an opposed side of the work piece to form within the work piece a prosthesis having a surface essentially free of defects.

The frame is controlled to move in both an X axis and/or a Y axis and the frame holds a selected platen of a set of platens. The selected platen holds and supports a target container into which the desired quantity of pills is deposited. The platen identifier is read by the device for dispensing pills to determine which of the plurality of platens is in the frame.

Abstract: A method for combinatorially processing a substrate is provided. The method includes providing a substrate disposed on a substrate support. The substrate and the substrate support are raised against a plurality of sealing surfaces of corresponding sleeves of a plurality of flow cells of a combinatorial processing chamber. The combinatorial processing chamber is operable to concurrently process different regions of the substrate differently. A sealing pressure between the sealing surface of the sleeves and a surface of the substrate is monitored and the raising is terminated when a desired pressure is obtained. The different regions of the substrate are then processed differently.

Abstract: Provided is a substrate stage which can transfer a substrate at a high speed. In the substrate stage of the present invention, auxiliary mounting tables are attached to a main mounting table, and lower rails are arranged over on the main mounting table and above the auxiliary mounting tables. When both ends of the lower rails are bent upwardly by a vertically adjusting unit in order to prevent the both ends of the lower rails to be bent downwardly, the lower rails are made straight. Since the lower rail is not divided, the linearity is ensured and the moving plate does not stutter so that transfer of the substrate at high speed can be performed.

Abstract: In oscillating an oscillating body, a control unit obtains a load torque due to the gravity acting on a drive motor at least at one angular position defined about an axis of rotation. The control unit calculates a specified maximum acceleration depending upon if the load torque Q is acting in a direction in which it hinders the acceleration or deceleration of the drive motor 15 or is acting in a direction in which it assists the acceleration or deceleration. An acceleration for the oscillating body is set so as not to be greater than the calculated specified maximum acceleration. The control unit adjusts the acceleration of the oscillating body depending upon the load torque of when the oscillating body 13 is accelerating or decelerating.

The XY translation stage also includes an object stage that orbits freely in a defined plane without rotation of the object stage out of that defined plane.
