Peripheral Radially Sealing Flexible Projection (e.g., Lip, Piston Cup Seal, Etc.) Patents (Class 277/309)
  • Patent number: 11746906
Abstract: Seal assemblies, gaskets, bearing assemblies, and their components can be used as pre-packaged seal systems and pre-packaged seal and bearing systems. The seal assemblies can be orientated in different configurations for different applications. Gaskets to restrict flow and gaskets with memory lips to operate as sealing lips can be included to increase the number of sealing points. In a pre-packaged configuration, the cylinder can be a straight cylinder, a stepped cylinder, or a split cylinder. Bearing assemblies can be pre-packaged with the sealing assemblies and service grease may optionally be used to provide lubrication and limit fluid incursion into the spring cavities.

Abstract: A closure element for a fluid end assembly that has two or more recessed grooves formed in its outer surface. The grooves are axially offset. A seal is placed in one and only one of the grooves. As wear occurs, the seal is relocated to one of the other grooves. Instead of a series of axially offset grooves in a single closure element, a kit may be formed from two or more otherwise identical closure elements, each with a single recessed groove at a different axial position. Another closure element has a series of ledge-like surfaces defining spaces within which a seal may be received. One outer surface surrounds one or more of the other surfaces. A seal is placed in one and only one of the spaces. As wear occurs, the seal is relocated to one of the other spaces.

Abstract: A seal assembly for sealing an annular space between a shaft and a housing includes an annular case coupleable with the housing or the shaft and an annular seal member having a sealing surface centered about a centerline. In certain constructions, a coupler is configured to connect the seal member with the case or to connect the case with the housing such that the seal member is positioned with the sealing surface centerline intersecting or skew with respect to a central axis when the seal assembly is installed about the shaft. In other constructions, the seal member has an angled end providing the angled sealing surface. Thereby, the centerline of the sealing surface defines an angle to the central axis having a value of at least one degree, and the sealing surface engages the shaft outer surface to define an elliptical sealing interface extending circumferentially about the central axis.

Abstract: A splatter guard for a dental cleaning tool eliminates the splatter by gathering splatter first on the outer lower one-third to one-half of the fructoconical prophy cup using combination of vanes and the dimples. As the splatter migrates upwards, the splatter guard wipes off the splatter. The reason the splatter guard is constructed smaller than the cup is because it allows the cup to flex outward without interfering during use thereof. The splatter guard can be attached several different ways, including slide in, snap on, secured between two half-housing members, or formed integrally with the housing, for example. The drive train is housed in a partial split contra angle housing which allows accurate positioning of the gears as it is required to ensure that the cup rotates concentrically and remains in touch with the knife edge of the splatter guard.

Together, the grooves and cavity allow air to flow from a hub on one side of the seal assembly to a vacuum port in the steering knuckle. A dust lip extends from the end of the axial leg in a direction opposite the lay down sealing lip. When the oil side is under negative pressure and when the lay down sealing lip begins to lift radially off the shaft there is a counterbalance force applied to the axial leg through the bellows geometry which maintains the lay down sealing lip in contact with the shaft. End portions of the flexible members are presented for wiping contact with the other component. The method includes the steps of: (i) forming a plurality of pack segments, wherein each segment contains a respective subset of the flexible members of the annular pack, and wherein the end portions of the flexible members of each subset, when viewed in the axial direction of the seal, lie on a straight line; and (ii) assembling the pack segments in a substantially circular pack holder such that each pack segment forms a respective angular sector of the annular pack.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to sealing the propeller shaft of a ship using a sealing having a group of lip seals arranged consecutively in a direction of the propeller shaft so that a seal chamber is created between adjacent lip seals. The pressure of the first seal chamber on the propeller side can be close to the pressure of the surrounding water at the propeller shaft level, and the pressure of the second seal chamber furthest from the propeller can be adjusted to a fixed value that is lower than the pressure of the first seal chamber. The pressure of a third chamber located between the first chamber and the second chamber can be adjustable by pressure regulation devices to a value between the pressure values of the first and the second chambers by adjusting the pressure loss caused by the flow of a liquid medium.

Abstract: A seal for preventing the bypass of solids from a filter screen assembly that can be used in water and wastewater treatment. The seal can include an L-shaped bracket and a housing that can include a channel-shaped member. A first panel of the L-shaped bracket can be inserted into a groove of a belt of the filter screen assembly so as to fill that groove. The belt can be insertably received into a channel recess of the channel-shaped member of the housing. A second panel of the L-shaped bracket can be fastened to one side wall of the channel-shaped member. By securing the L-shaped bracket to the channel-shaped member of the housing, a track is formed for slidably engaging the belt during its rotational movement. The belt's contact with the first panel of the L-shaped bracket inserted into the belt's groove forms a tight, continuous seal.
