  • Patent number: 7069908
Abstract: An injector for directly injecting fuel into a cylinder of an internal combustion engine having a socket. The injector is provided with a nozzle insertable into the socket. An annular gap is defined between the nozzle and the socket when the nozzle is received in the socket. A first seal groove, formed in the nozzle, receives a first gas seal that seals the annular gap. A second seal groove, formed in the nozzle, receives a second gas seal that seals the annular gap. The second seal groove is formed closer to the distal end of the nozzle than the first seal groove. The depth of the second seal groove is greater than that of the first seal groove. This structure prevents the formation of deposits and maintains the sealing capability of the gas seals without lowering installation and maintenance efficiency.

  • Patent number: 6863039
Abstract: A casing cover (1, 10, 20) for an internal-combustion engine, particularly valve covers or oil pans, for being mounted detachably and fluid-tight to the engine block (5, 13, 21), having a peripheral edge that is profiled to receive an elastomer seal (3, 12) at the edge (2, 11) of the casing cover (1, 10, 20). The cover is provided with an axial extension (7, 14) that is oriented in the direction of the engine block (5, 13, 21) and is disposed at an inner portion of the edge (2, 11) of the casing cover (1, 10, 20). The extension is positioned to project axially beyond the sealing surface (4, 15), an engine block wherein the casing cover is inserted so the casing cover is at least positioned correctly on the engine block.

Abstract: A seal kit for vehicle air conditioning systems and associated methods are provided. The seal kit includes a container and a set of a plurality of retrofit seals positioned in the container and adapted to retrofit a set of a plurality of existing seals of any one preselected group of different vehicle air conditioning systems corresponding to a preselected group of different vehicles. The seal kit simplifies and shortens the selling cycle by condensing multiple similar vehicles' seal requirements into kits allowing the ready identification of system seals by year, make, model, and when applicable, engine type. The condensing of individual components or seals into kits also allows reduction of inventory. The identification by year, make, model, and engine type speeds the selling process by quickly identifying the necessary kit and allowing one kit to be sold instead of multiple components or seals.

Abstract: A valve stem seal assembly includes an elastomeric sealing member for sealing between a reciprocally moveable valve stem and an associated valve guide in an internal combustion engine. The assembly includes a cylindrical retainer that incorporates an end wall at a first end thereof for securing the elastomeric sealing member to the retainer. The valve assembly is installed over the valve guide, and the retainer is adapted for frictional securement to the guide, whereas the retainer extends down to and engages the surface or deck of the associated engine cylinder head. The retainer includes a radially extending bottom flange at a second end opposite the end wall, wherein the flange bears directly against the cylinder head deck. The upper surface of the flange provides a bearing surface for valve return springs, while the bottom surface of the flange includes an elastomeric sealing media bonded thereto.

  • Patent number: 6591801
Abstract: A sealed cover, such as an engine valve or rocker cover, is mounted on an engine with balanced grommets which support the cover through equal compression loads on inner and outer sides of the cover. A sealing surface of the cover is positioned with a fixed gap from a facing sealing surface of a cylinder head or other engine component. The gap is sealed by a liquid RTV seal material that is vulcanized in place at room temperature after installation of the cover. The arrangement separates the function of noise isolation from the sealing function performed by the RTV material so that the specifications of the sealing material and the noise isolating grommet material can be varied as desired to perform their separate functions without a change in one affecting the other.
