In exemplary embodiments, the cam is an eccentric cylinder that rotates to adjust the tooth or is wedge shaped and one or both of the bearing surfaces of the tooth and base are ramps.

Abstract: A jaw for the chuck of a turning device such as a lathe generally comprises a base, a tooth adjustable relative to the base in the radial direction and a cam for adjusting the tooth position. The base may be held on the chuck and driven in a conventional manner. The tooth has a face for engaging a workpiece and is attached to the base such that the face is radially movable relative to the base. The cam includes a surface bearing against the base and a surface bearing against the tooth. The cam varies in thickness such that movement of the cam changes the radial distance between the base and the tooth. • Patent number: 6746024
Abstract: The chuck comprises jaws which, in addition to their radial movement, can each swivel around an axis essentially parallel to the axis of the chuck, and where this axis glides in a radial slideway of the chuck in order to allow said radial movement. This swivelling action ensures that the working surfaces of the jaws or of shoes sitting on them which are adapted to the outer shape of the workpiece will sit evenly on the workpiece even when the latter is mounted between centers and as a consequence its rotation axis does not coincide exactly with that of the chuck.

Abstract: A clamping jaw for a tool holder chuck, wherein the clamping chuck has two clamping jaws arranged spaced apart and diametrically opposite one another relative to an axis of rotation of the clamping chuck and moveable toward and away from one another for clamping a tool shaft by moving the clamping chuck with a radial component, has a longitudinal slot having a slot mouth open toward the axis of rotation and a slot bottom. The longitudinal slot receives positive-lockingly the tool shaft and has slot flanks defining an approach angle at the slot mouth and a slot bottom angle at the slot bottom. The approach angle is greater than the slot bottom angle. The clamping jaw is manufactured with a disc milling cutter with opposed milling cutter flanks located radially outwardly and positioned slantedly relative to one another at different flank angles.
