Radially Reciprocating Jaws Patents (Class 279/66)
  • Patent number: 11801563
Abstract: A tool for engaging drive flanks of a threaded nut has a tool body with a central cavity. Cam surfaces are formed in an inner wall of the central cavity. A retainer secured within the central cavity has an outward-facing slot. A jaw for each of the cam surfaces has a curved outer side in contact with one of the cam surfaces and a drive surface on an inner side for engaging one of the drive flanks of the nut. A foot extends inward from a lower end of each of the jaws into the slot to retain the jaws within the central cavity. Rotating the tool body relative to the jaws moves the drive surfaces of the jaws from a retracted position to a gripping position in engagement with the drive flanks of the nut.

The chuck has a generally tubular chuck body centered on a chuck axis and having a central axially extending passage. This body is normally carried on the spindle and receives the shaft of the drill bit in its passage with the spindle, shaft, and chuck axes all coaxial. The hammer projects axially forward into the passage and is engageable therein with the bit. A plurality of jaws radially but not angularly displaceable in the chuck body have inner ends engageable with the drill-bit shaft and in turn provided with formations complementarily engageable in the groove thereof.

  • Patent number: 4602799
Abstract: A chuck has a chuck body centered on a chuck axis and having an axially forwardly opening and axially centered recess and an adjustment ring rotatable but not axially displaceable on the chuck body, having a central hole aligned with the recess, and formed with a plurality of guide passages open radially inwardly into the hole. The body and ring normally are carried on a drill spindle with the shank of a drill bit through the recess and hole and the spindle, shank, and chuck axes all coaxial. Respective jaws radially displaceable in the passages have inner ends engageable with the drill-bit shank in the recess. The chuck body has a face directly axially confronting the jaws and formed with an axially projecting spiral ridge. The jaws have axially projecting teeth complementary to and engaging with the ridge. Thus relative rotation of the body and ring about the axis radially displaces the jaws in the ring.

  • Patent number: 4520698
Abstract: An adjustable socket for a socket wrench or the like has a body member with two side plates, and between the side plates are jaw members which are concurrently movable parallel to the side plates to adjust the space between confronting jaw elements on the free ends of the jaw members. Pin and slot connections are used to change the positions of the jaw members. One embodiment of the invention provides for automatic adjustment when the socket is pushed against a hex-head fastener; and a second embodiment provides for manual adjustment by sliding an operating yoke forwardly on the body member.

  • Patent number: 4350463
Abstract: An arrangement and method for mounting a cutter body, especially a milling cutter, in which the cutter and power driven spindle have a common axis of rotation. An arbor shank is used to interconnect the cutter with the spindle with one end of the shank mating with a shouldered bore formed in one of the spindle and cutter. Radially moveable clamp elements are provided to expand and engage the shoulder so as to urge one face of the cutter body into firm abutment with one end of the spindle. Keying means are also provided between the cutter body and the power driven spindle.

  • Patent number: 4229014
Abstract: A fluid actuated expanding mandrel or internal chuck is provided with means including very stiff springs to cause the expanding members to move outwardly a substantially equal amount, whereby a roll or workpiece is concentrically mounted, despite looseness between the bore of the roll or workpiece and the mandrel or internal chuck. A correspondingly inverted arrangement affords concentric chucking on the outer diameter of solid workpieces.
