Scale Remover Or Preventor Patents (Class 29/81.01)
  • Patent number: 9902482
Abstract: Disclosed are a method and system to form a contoured structure using deep rolling. The method includes using deep rolling to introduce plastic deformation to one or more portions of a work piece to form a convex contour in the work piece. The work piece, and subsequently formed contoured structure, can be metal or composite. The disclosed deep rolling systems and methods form, for example contoured aircraft panels, while also providing fatigue strength improvement and low level of work hardening during the forming process rather than as a post-production surface treatment.

  • Patent number: 8707529
Abstract: A metal processing apparatus comprises a scale breaker apparatus having a plurality of rollers positioned in a staggered arrangement and engaging first and second surfaces of sheet metal. The staggered arrangement creates clearances between the rollers of the first and second surface rollers sufficient to enable the sheet metal to conform to a portion of an outer periphery of at least one of the rollers while passing between the first and second surface rollers under a tensile force. The metal processing apparatus further comprises a recoiler adapted to coil the length of sheet metal. The recoiler subjects the sheet metal passing through the scale breaking apparatus to a tensile force sufficient to conform the sheet metal to a portion of the outer periphery of at least one of the rollers with a wrap angle sufficient to break scale from the sheet metal.

  • Patent number: 8572826
Abstract: A method and a device for improving the outer surface quality by an in-line outer surface treatment of slabs, which are produced in a continuous process from strand casting to hot rolling, with a heating furnace arranged between a CSP-casting machine and a hot rolling train. A defined surface of the slab with a layer thickness per slab side of up to 4 mm is oxidized in a targeted manner by an oxidation device. An oxidation treatment of the slab surface is combined with the following processing in-line method steps: prior to the oxidation treatment the outer surface of the slab is freed of naturally occurring scale by a scale washer, after the oxidation treatment a created oxidation layer as well as the newly formed scale is cooled, mechanically broken up in a roll pair and removed from the surface of the slab by a scale washer.

  • Patent number: 6694584
Abstract: A descaler is provided for descaling the scale on hot finished wire or green rod. The descaler comprises two rollers that are mounted to a rotatable support plate. The support plate and the rollers rotate in unison. One of the rollers pivots relative to the support plate such that the rollers can be positioned substantially parallel to allow wire to be easily fed between the rollers for set up purposes and can be positioned substantially perpendicular in which the rollers are arranged to effect wire descaling when wire is pulled through the descaler. Rotation of the roller support plate from the initial set up position automatically pivots the one roller into the working position. The pivoting movement of the one roller is accomplished using the tension of the wire that is created as the roller support plate is rotated and/or a cam mechanism.
