Taper Tube Making Patents (Class 29/DIG41)
  • Patent number: 4622841
Abstract: A method for finishing a relatively long metal tubing stock to any desired tapered shape through a single-pass operation. The method is performed with any number of individual swaging units, arranged in tandem each having the identical construction including the same working parts and assemblies. A grooved roll arrangement, associated with the tandem-configured swaging units, is used as a preliminary step to form an initial metal tubing stock into a multiple-stepped shape.

  • Patent number: 4614014
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a cylindrical valve sleeve is provided. The method includes the steps of providing a cylindrical valve having an inner wall, an outer wall and an end shoulder disposed therebetween. The shoulder is machined to form a circumferential groove which defines a swedgeable shoulder area on the shoulder. The inner wall is broached to include a plurality of open ended longitudinal slots radially spaced about the inner wall. Next, the shoulder areas are swedged at preselected spaced positions contiguous to the end portions of the longitudinal slots to deform the preselected positions axially and radially inwardly into the slot end portions whereby the slot end portions are substantially closed relative to the inner wall of the sleeve. The preselected spaced positions are discontinuous relative to the shoulder to minimize the necessary force and resulting deformation.

  • Patent number: 3998083
Abstract: Straightening apparatus with means for rotating an elongate work element and advancing the same along its longitudinal axis. A bending station is provided in the apparatus which bends the rotating work element when such is advanced therethrough. The bending station includes infeed and outfeed parts mounted for relative universal movement on a central confining member. A tapered work element is confined within a sheathing device to produce an assembly of uniform diameter for processing by the apparatus.
