  • Patent number: 11059322
Abstract: The wheel is for a railway vehicle that travels on a rail. The wheel includes a wheel tread, a flange and a throat portion. The wheel tread is provided at an outer circumferential portion of the wheel. The wheel tread faces a head surface of the rail. The flange is provided at the outer circumferential portion of the wheel. The flange projects further outward than the wheel tread in the radial direction of the wheel. The throat portion connects the surface of the flange and the wheel tread. The throat portion has a protrusion. The protrusion projects to the rail side. The protrusion extends along the entire circumference of the throat portion.

  • Patent number: 7669906
Abstract: Wheels for goods wagons with small and large diameters, in addition to wheel sets equipped with wheels of this type for running gear, which are dependent on a highly passive radial positioning when negotiating curves and must remain stable at high speed. The inventive wheel profile is characterized as a result of the relatively large entry radius into the transition area from the running surface to the wheel flange by a low equivalent conicity. This enables a quieter running of the wheel set when the latter is travelling in a straight line. In curves, there is a sufficient rolling circle differential, permitting less wear and tear.

  • Publication number: 20090218837
Abstract: A method includes shrink fitting a ring member about a railroad wheel body and metallurically bonding the ring member to the railroad wheel body. A wheel assembly includes an inner portion obtained from a worn railroad wheel, a ring member disposed about the inner portion, and suitable electroplating material disposed on at least one of the faying surfaces. The wheel assembly may be heated under suitable conditions to provide diffusion bonding across interfacing faying surfaces to produce an integral wheel structure. Appropriate quenching, tempering, and finishing processes may be utilized to obtain desired properties. An article formed thereby includes an inner body portion obtained from a worn railroad wheel and a metallurically bonded outer circumferential portion. The outer portion may comprise a composition selected for desired wear characteristics.

  • Patent number: 7455242
Abstract: A railway system has a pre-determined profile of contact surfaces between the rail and the wheel rolling along the rail. The length of the contact surface is determined based on the value of the convex-to convex or flat-to-convex contacting running surface of the rail and rolling surface of the wheel. Improved profile allows to significantly decrease contact stress loads and extend useful life of the railway system.

  • Patent number: 6679535
Abstract: This invention relates to a safety wheel, for a subway coach bogie, or the like, running on pneumatic tires, adapted to be interposed between a chassis of the bogie and a corresponding tire, said wheel presenting an outer peripheral zone having a braking portion as well as a guiding portion projecting radially outwardly from the braking portion, the hardness of the braking portion being much greater than the hardness of the guiding portion. This may be achieved for example by effecting a selective tempering of the braking portion by peripheral nozzles projecting a cooling liquid. This safety wheel is considerably longer lasting than those of the prior art.

  • Patent number: 6488324
Abstract: A railway vehicle wheel always improve damping characteristics when a thin visco-elastic layer is placed between the tire and the connecting disc or ring. The visco-elastic layer improves damping through shearing action and has a thickness that is lower than that of the tire by an order of magnitude.

  • Patent number: 6352294
Abstract: A wheel comprises a main body, a tread making a contact with a top face of the rail head of a rail, and a flange. At least at a portion of the wheel tread which is in contact with the rail, there is provided a tread-forming component formed of a ceramic-particle-dispersion reinforced aluminum composite material, which has ceramic particles mixed in an aluminum alloy. The tread-forming component is formed in a ring shape, fitted into a tread-forming component receiving portion and fixed to the main body by a fixing member.

  • Patent number: 6205930
Abstract: A trolley wheel for a load lifting apparatus that is movable along a rail having a horizontal supporting surface. The wheel includes a crowned tread surface for rolling contact with the rail and a flange for stabilizing the tread surface in position on the rail. The flange includes a substantially crowned realigning portion for realignment of the wheels on the rail with minimal contact or binding. The flange also includes an undercut portion for added clearance between the flange and the rail. Preferably, the crowned tread surface and crowned realigning portions are heat treated for improved wear resistance. The undercut may also be heat treated for added toughness.
