  • Patent number: 4437701
Abstract: The present invention provides a rocker-blocking mechanism for a platform rocking chair which when activated, typically in conjunction with thrusting of a legrest which lifts the user's feet away from the reassurance of floor contact. The rocker-blocking mechanism includes a forwardly presented, vertically elongated slot mounted in a medially disposed linkage between the chair rocker cam unit and legrest operating mechanism. A rearwardly presented, forward-to-rear tapering wedge element is disposed through the slot, in a linkage between the chair base and the chair rocker cam unit. When the legrest is in a retracted condition, the wedge is so located that there is plenty of space above and below the wedge within the slot to permit free rocking. As the legrest is thrust, the slot is quickly moved relatively forwards along the wedge to a position where the wedge vertically fills the slot, thus blocking rocking.

  • Patent number: 4291913
Abstract: A trigger handle assembly for a reclining chair which is movable between an end-limiting upright position to an end-limiting fully-reclined position. The handle assembly is operative for affirmatively forwardly driving the linkage system for the chair only as the latter is moved from its initial upright position to an intermediate chair position which is between the two end-limiting chair positions. The body weight of a seated user is then utilized to move the chair from the intermediate chair position to the fully-reclined position without the aid of the handle assembly. The handle assembly disengages from the linkage system when the chair reaches the intermediate position. A handle for the handle assembly is freely returnable by gravity to its initial position.

Arm mounting members are attached to the left and right side arms of the chair, respectively. Friction reducing buttons on said arm mounting members movably contact said base plates. At least one of said buttons is adjustable to ensure retaining said chair against swaying sideways. A button at each side of the chair, is attached to one link of the arm rest suspension linkage, to slidably contact another link of the suspension linkage, to also aid in preventing side sway of the chair. The cross-rails extend beyond the base plates and beyond the inner surfaces of the side arms of the chair.
