Automatic (non-motor) Endgate Latch Mechanism Patents (Class 298/23A)
  • Patent number: 5997099
Abstract: A hopper (10, 120) for use with flowable material (12) such as particulate, aggregate, sand, salt, gravel, top soil or the like includes at least one pivotal gate (14) attached to a frame (18) of the hopper (10, 120). Advantageously, the gate (14) swings toward an open position in response to the weight of the material (12) in the hopper (10, 120) to allow the material (12) to flow out of the hopper (10, 120). Additionally, the gate (14) automatically returns toward the closed position by gravity due to the position of the pivot axis of the hinge (16) connecting the gate (14) to the frame (18) relative to the center of gravity of the gate (14). Furthermore, a latch (58) and other features of the hopper (10, 120) control the movement of the gate (14) to regulate the flow of the material (12) from the hopper (10, 120).

  • Patent number: 5575536
Abstract: A dump truck spreads material to form a layer of material to form a structure such as a road by tilting a dump body pivoted on the truck and allowing a tailgate to open a gap through which the material flows as the dump truck moves forward. Typically, a pair of chains determine the width of the gap. In order to release the chains and allow the tailgate to swing freely if the material becomes jammed and does not freely flow through the gap, a pair of toggle-type chain releases are provided. The toggle-type chain releases comprise chain-retaining plates with slots therein for receiving one link of the chains. The retaining plates are rotatable from a chain-retaining position to a chain-releasing position. The toggles which operate the chain retaining plates include levers which are unitary with one link of the toggles and serve as operating handles which when pulled releases the chains.

  • Patent number: 5336035
Abstract: A mobile basket for accumulating and transporting hay bales includes a container mounted on wheels. The container has a pair of side walls which are spaced from each other and the spacing is greater at the rear of the container than at the front thereof. A rear wall of the container is hinged at its top and opens by gravity to discharge the bales from the container. A chute is also provided at the front of the container to receive hay bales directly from a hay baler and discharge them to the container. The rear wall may be opened and shut remotely, and a plurality of the containers may be readily nested with relation to each other for shipment.

  • Patent number: 4836610
Abstract: A collector cart includes a body having an open rear end, which is closed by a canopy pivotally mounted adjacent its front end on the body adjacent its front end. The body has a support pivotally connected to caster wheel supports and a tow bar attached to a riding lawn mower hitch bar. Telescoping chutes connect the mower outlet with a canopy port to fill the cart with debris. When the cart is to be dumped, a linkage mechanism is activated by an operator, who remains on the mower, raising a lift handle to initially cause rearward shifting of the canopy relative to the body to release a locking connection of the rear of the canopy to the rear of the body. The body is released from its tow bar at the same time so that continued raising of the lift handle by the operator causes the body to pivot to a dumping position while the canopy pivots away from the body due to a rope of a fixed length connecting the front of the canopy to the mower.

  • Patent number: 4032192
Abstract: A latching mechanism for the rear gate of a dump vehicle is automatically released when the box is tilted rearwardly. The gate is hinged at the top so that when the release mechanism is actuated, the gate swings open and the contents may be discharged while the vehicle is still moving.
