  • Publication number: 20040093742
Abstract: A cutting tool includes an elongate handle to be grasped by a user, and an elongate blade connected to the elongate handle. The elongate blade includes a substantially linear proximal portion extending longitudinally outwardly from an end of the handle, and a curved distal portion extending in a downward and forward curve from the proximal portion and ending in a tapered tip. The linear proximal portion and curved distal portion may have about equal lengths. The linear proximal portion may have a sharpened lower edge and the curved distal portion may have sharpened upper and lower edges. In some embodiments, the elongate blade may have a length of less than about twelve inches so that the cutting tool is a knife, and in other embodiments, the elongate blade may have a length of greater than about twelve inches so that the cutting tool is a sword.

  • Patent number: 6484615
Abstract: A slicing machine including a slicing blade for slicing at least first and second product loaves disposed in a side-by-side arrangement using a single rotation of the slicing blade is set forth. A single rotation of the slicing edge about the center of rotation results in a penetration gradient into each of the first and second product loaves that diminishes in magnitude over the single rotation. To this end, the slicing edge may have a profile defined a plurality of constant radius sections. Each constant radius section has a section center defining the center of the constant radius for that constant radius section. Further, each constant radius section has a section center differing from the section center of an adjacent constant radius section. Such a blade and its associated slicing station provide great control of slices from the loaves as they proceed from the loaf to a receiving conveyor of the slicing station.

  • Patent number: 5586392
Abstract: A gardening tool for cutting weeds and other plant growth having a handle and a cutting head comprising first and second blade members which are adjustably positionable relative to each other. Each blade member has an elongated body having cutting edges extending along opposite longitudinal sides thereof. The blade members are connected end to end by a carriage bolt which is received by apertures in a first end of each blade member. The aperture in the first blade member is complimentary in shape to the square shank portion of the carriage bolt. The aperture in the second blade member is a star-shaped polygon which defines a plurality of contact surfaces for engagement with the square shank portion of the carriage bolt. When the second blade member is positioned on the first blade member at the desired angular orientation relative thereto, it will resist rotation due to the interengagement of the apertures with the square shank portion of the carriage bolt.

  • Patent number: 5177943
Abstract: A two-piece cutter member for mounting on a sickle bar has a rigid thin support element arranged for relatively permanent attachment to a sickle bar, and a flat planar pyramid-shaped spring metal blade. A portion of the blade provides at least one bridge or loop for encircling the support element and holding the blade on the support element. A section of either said the portion or the support element is displaced with respect to the support face to releasably hold the blade on the support when the blade is fully positioned on said support element. The spring metal blade is preferably formed of two thin sheet welded together near their edges.

  • Patent number: 5146734
Abstract: An underwater weed cutter comprises a generally W-shaped object which is cut out of a plate or sheet of metal and is configured similar to two scythes whose opposite ends are joined together to form a unitary object which has a line attached to it to provide for pulling it along the bottom of a body of water to shear off and collect underwater weeds. The weed cutters are configured such that the outside or convex boundary of one of them is complementary in shape to the inside or concave boundary of another of them so that there is no metal waste developed between the cutters when they are being cut from the plate.

  • Patent number: 4945638
Abstract: A tool for manually cutting, trimming and pruning hedges and the like. This cutting tool has a semi-circular curved blade, with a cutting surface on the inner side thereof, said blade being attached to a handle by wing nuts and bolts or other fastening means. This cutting tool makes vertical cuts by the user standing at right angles to a hedge and swinging downward on the side of the hedge. Horizontal cuts are made by the user swinging the tool from right to left, or vice versa, on top of the hedge. The curved blade is designed to increase and concentrate the cutting power of the tool. The handle is offset from the blade for safety purposes to keep the user's legs and feet outside the line of the swinging arc so that the legs and feet are not cut. The offset handle further keeps the hands from being scratched by the side of the hedge.

  • Patent number: 4939841
Abstract: A cutting tool for cutting tree branches and small trees in a minimum of strokes of the tool, as well as for cutting bushes, plants, tall weeds and the like, includes an elongated rigid blade at least about 8 to 10 inches in length, an elongated handle at one end of the blade, a straight cutting edge extending most of the length of the blade, and a curved blade end which curves back toward the handle to form a generally U-shaped cutting end of the blade. The outer non-cutting portion of the blade is at least about 1/4-inch thick and provides the principal mass of the blade. The inner portion of the blade tapers to form the straight cutting edge which is positioned to extend along an axis behind the axis of the handle to balance the tool for efficient cutting.

  • Patent number: 4852261
Abstract: The invention relates to a knife insert for tools with an oscillating head, preferably of the type used for cutting open rubber or adhesive beading strips around windscreens and having a cutting face bounded by one or a plurality of cutting edges. When producing such a knife, in order to be able to use less expensive material and in order to be able considerably to reduce the reciprocating movements of the shank when driven by a tool which performs oscillatory rotary movements, it is according to the invention proposed that the knife be angled over in an L-shape at right-angles to its cutting face, the cutting face forming a first leg of the L, and the second leg of the L which extends substantially at a right-angle from the cutting face comprising a connecting element for connection to an actuating tool.
